Finally saw Battle of Britain the 1960s film

You know it was not bad at all. Remove the 1960s love interest bit and it was quite a good film. The German Luftwaffe actors had a 1940s vibe to them which appeared authentic. (I mean based on memoirs) The Brits were typical Brits in most films from then-cocky to serious. Plummer always has a sharp line. Enjoyed the aircraft. Special effects were ok. I know they had to repeat them often due to soo much aerial scenes.

It hit the main historical pts. and even included the mauling of the Norway based squadrons plus the Stukas being so slow.

Of course it has some nice one liners.

I always found it boring as a kid and could not watch more than a few minutes.

Wow! Be careful.

This film is part of every Brit of a certain generation

The Battle of France is over The Battle of Britain is about to begin..."

"You can train monkeys to fly better than that!

"Tea sir? A bit Gritty I am afraid"

You will start to turn British - perhaps as much as Billy Fisk III

For days afterwards I was hearing tacka-tacka-tacka-tacka in my head. Apparently mouthing it as well as wifey looked a me a bit odd. She loved the cut of German uniforms. Such fashion sense.

Comparing this to that 1988 British series, Piece of Cake, which still had some of that 1940s vibe among the pilots although it had a modern grittiness, jealousies and conflicts which struck me as un-1940s unless I have been too brainwashed by the happy comradeship predominant in memoirs.

Just as in many other movies and TV series, footage from "Battle of Britain" was used in "Piece of Cake".

"Battle of Britain" was a very accurate film, a great superproduction, but in the final part ( full of unconnected aerial combat scenes )
the interest decreases, after two hours of viewing

There is a scene maybe due to the dubbing, that I never understand ;

A child walk and talk with Ian McShane ( Sgt. Pilot Andy ), and he says; Only officers fly Spitfires. You're not a fighter pilot....
Ian McShane fastens his uniform, and the boy shout ; Anybody can do that ! :?
" The right to believe is the right of those who don't know "
