Does anyone know whether the Germans ever brought any radar sets to North Africa during the 1941-1943 period? I've never heard any positive confirmation about this.
The early warning radars like Freya were probably too big and cumbersome to load onto ships. But in theory, they could have used gun laying radars like the Wurzburg. Was this ever done?

Thanks for the response! I'm surprised that they actually deployed the Freyas into Libya.Ironmachine wrote: ↑01 Mar 2019, 09:25It seems that they did. Look here:

After some additional reading, I was able to find more information about this.
''The Germans introduced their first radar into North Afrika, a Freya to Tripoli, in January 1942, with no small degree of apprehension... The first Wurzburg made its appearance at Bomba bay in April, and by June there were three Freya and two Wurzburgs in service.'' -Technical and Military Imperatives: A Radar History of World War 2, by L Brown.
