Hi Sturm 78, hi Max,
You are right, until 30 April 1943 this vehicle had the designation SLG (Schweres Löschgruppenfahrzeug), and then the designation LF 15 (Löschgruppenfahrzeug 15). "15" stands for the capacity of the water pump: 1500 litres in a minute.
Best regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles of the Axis fire brigades
Hi Bert,
Thanks for that interesting photo. Is that the same vehicle I have here identified as an LGF 3000?

Hi Max,
yes, it is. But the designation is LGS 3000 ("S" for "Spritze"). Here a pic of the Mercedes-Benz LGF 3000 "Fliegertankspritze FL - Ts 2,5".
Best regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles of the Axis fire brigades
Thank you, Bert. BTW do you know what was the reason for the redesignation of the Fire Fighting Apparatus in 1943? It seems to me just an unnecessary paperwork shuffle. Or maybe I have missed something important.
Cheers,
Max

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles of the Axis fire brigades
Hi Max,
first I have to say sorry to You, because I didn´t tell You the source of the information and of the pic: "Feuerwehrtypenbuch 1900 - 1945" by Udo Paulitz.
Now the answer to Your question: there were two ministries in the third Reich, which ordered vehicles for the fire brigades: the RLM (Reichsluftfahrtministerium) = German Air Ministry and the RMdI (Reichsinnenministerium) = Ministry of the Interior. From 30 April 1943 uniform designations for all vehicles of the fire brigades were introduced. The terms "leicht" (light), "schwer" (heavy), "groß" (great) were not clear enough for the identification. From now on the more practical indices, already used by the RLM, were in force: fire engines with the capacity of the pump, vehicles with turntable ladders with the extension length of the ladder.
Best regards
Bert

Hi Bert,
Many thanks. Your explanation makes the change in nomenclature clear to me now.

Re: ► Photothread: Vehicles of the Axis fire brigades
Hi,
here an interesting pic of a Hansa-Lloyd type "Bremen IV" Kraftspritze, one of the 90 chassis, which were delivered by Hansa-Lloyd to Magirus in the town Ulm since 1936. There they got a superstructur of fire engines. Interesting that there were produced the own types Magirus M 27 or rather M27a at the same time in Ulm. So there was a competition in this company – but the customer shouldn´t know.
Regards
