Re: Handwriting help
That was fast! Is "geknipst" as in "took a snapshot"?
Thanks!

Re: Handwriting help
Hi Hiltraut,
The last word is " gebadet".

Re: Handwriting help
Ah, thanks! Makes more sense (even if the Adriatic in December probably is a bit on the cool side).

Re: Handwriting help
OK, I thought it said "Martin", but the guy who wrote that misidentified it - it's a Soviet SB2-M. As for the placename... "Dubroroschina"? Tricky...
Re: Handwriting help
Quite probably in my opinion it resembles Дубровщина - several villages called like that in Belarus.

Re: Handwriting help
I guess it could also be in Ukraine, but as it probably is as you say one of several possible villages, I fear this is the best we can do.
Thanks all for your input!

Re: Handwriting help
Another placename that eludes me. "Oj***ki"? Somewhere in Smolensk oblast.
Re: Handwriting help
Looks like Gorki to me. Not sure about exact location as these were quite common as well as Gory on your photo!

Re: Handwriting help
You are right about that. A Russian-speaking friend told me that Gory is quite common, but there's only one likely candidate in Smolensk oblast. As for Gorki, it seems like it's a pretty common name for rural settlements, just as you said.
ETA: I searched for "Gorki, Smolensk oblast", and actually got a hit that fits with the other locations on the signs. I believe you cracked it, Greg! Thanks!
Re: Handwriting help
Gora, Gory = mountain/-s
Gorki = hill (górki in Polish)
So every settlement on a mountain/hill is likely to bear this terms in it´s name.
