Dear All,

These photos were taken on the first day of the Operation Barbarossa i.e. June 22, 1941, any idea where they were taken?

Best Regards

Apparently these photos were taken by Johannes Hähle from PK 637, which was attached to 6A.

Section IV of German-Soviet border was between GG and Ukraine SR, with border marker Nr.1 in Ustyluh and border marker Nr.132 in Uhniv.
So Nr.95 was somewhere in between!

From where I can find out about German-Soviet border marker details?

Actual route of the German–Soviet border was described in Additional Protocol to German–Soviet Boundary and Friendship Treaty signed 4 October 1939 by Molotov and Schulenburg. According to Additional Protocol a Mixed German-Soviet Border Commission was entrusted with a task of choosing locations for border markers and was responsible for issuing detailed maps.

What you need are documents prepared by this mixed commission.
These are located in Bundesarchiv (Germany), Archiwum Akt Nowych (Poland) and undoubtedly somewhere in Russian Federation archives. They are not available online, so you have to visit archives. Bits and pieces had been used in some German and Polish publications.

There were more then 2800 new border markers built.
I have some maps showing locations of border markers, but only for a tiny fragments of the border.

Also it's quite possible some info about German–Soviet border markers can be found in German Armies, Corps and Divisional NARA rolls. But that looks like daunting task...

It's your lucky day.

I managed to source a copy of a map which shows location of border marker IV 95 on German-Soviet 1939-41 border.
It was a small bridge over Solokiya river, SE of Ostrow (now Ostriv, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine 80051), just W of Chervonohrad.

Looks like they belonged to 297ID because this very division was based near Ostriv at the time of Operation Barbarossa.

More research is needed here. NARA rolls, secondary sources, daily maps, etc.
My bet would be rather on 9.ID
