It has mixed reviews on different websites, is it worth buying?

It's an advanced read (with a lot of primary sources and also data on combat units) that in-cooperates previous texts. Really it is best english-language series on the subject. The same author's other text "Panzergrenadiers to the Front" (about PzG BR 1945) is also extremely detailed.

Does it have a generous amount of first hand accounts?

Are you aware what is timeframe of Martin Gereis diary in Volume 2? Is it relates only to 3. Panzer Army? Or are there some bits on XXXXVI. Panzerkorps retreat to Danzig in the begining March 1945.
