Looking for info about SS-IG Ausb.Btl. 2

#1

Post by spacecabbie » 27 Jul 2019, 18:13

Hello every one,
I am looking for any info about 5. SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking" specifically troop assignments.
My grandfather (Kurt Haufe born: 2 may 1922, died 1948 Luckenwalde)
We believe he was with the SS-Grenadier-Regiment 3,5 or 7.
All we know for certain is that he was stationed at camp Vught around october 1944 in the netherlands.
I am looking for help to find out his movements throughout the war we have some documents death certificate and release from army. etc.
If any one has any tips how to go about this task.
Also is there any records about personal in this devision so i might look if he is mentioned so i can find out what rank and position he held

thanks in advance.

Some more info from a earlier post on feldgrau forum.
Everything below is not factual and might be wrong.

Also attached documents. You are welcome to use these if needed or publish but do give me a heads up if you do.
SS-Rottenführer Haufe, Kurt (2.5.1922 Trebbin)

We know he was in Apeldoorn on 9-april-1944 (we have a document)
he was part of SS-I.G.Ausb.Btl.2

We think he came from 14./Gren.Rgt.1 Lw.Ndl.

It's in german so do not completely understand it but it looks like he came for the hospital this fit with the story we know he got wounded in battle around Kursk (a proper translation would be awesome)

According to: https://www.feldgrau.net/forum/viewtopi ... =42&t=7838
They were moved into: SS-Alarm Bataillon Eberwein

My questions are:
Does anyone have any more info about any of the battalions or regiments of wiking division, Battles movement etc.

What did SS-Alarm Bataillon Eberwein do?
-did they fight at the market garden ? ifso where exactly ?
-was SS-I.G.Ausb.Btl.2 indeed a part ?
-what happened with this battalion around sept/oct (we know he was in The Hauge in oct for a visit and came possibly from camp vught.
-if it was disbanded does that mean SS-I.G.Ausb.Btl.2 became active again ?

About SS-I.G.Ausb.Btl.2
-where exactly where they stationed ? Apeldoorn?
-I also heart they guarded the outer perimeter of camp vught ?
-They trained the new ss troops from holland (landwachd ss)?
-any details about his Btl around april-oct 1944

SS-Rottenführer Haufe, Kurt (2.5.1922 Trebbin)
If it helps he was Awarded Iron Cross Second Class

Hello!

Can't help you much but I can tell you that SS-I.G.Ausb.Btl. 2 was still active after Oct. 1944 as the "Verordnungsblatt der Waffen-SS #22" on 15th November 1944 announced that it had been moved from Ede to Straßgräbschen/Bernsdorf b. Hoyerswerda.

Are you aware that Camp Vught was a concentration camp? And that a mass execution took place there on the very morning of the camp's liberation? In case you are not:

I am very aware of this its the first thing we checked he was afaik not involved. Although he might have been in the outer guard since afaik it was normal for stationed troops to do that ?

I assume you know that the primary function of the unit was to train new crews for the 7,5cm le.I.G. 18 and 15cm s.I.G. 33 companies?

Sorry, there's no search function. The reason i knew the info was on there was that i archived the "Verordnungsblatt" while i searched for something else. You just got lucky. ;-)

Concerning "Market Garden" http://www.defendingarnhem.com/index.htm might be worth a look. The might know more.

This unit was definitely based around Arnhem at the time of MG and supplied support to the Division von Tettau west of Osterbeek. It is mentioned in "Fighting the British at Arnhem" and "A few vital hours" to name but two books.
