Soviet paratroop
Hi,
It is often said that the SU developped the very first paratroops in world history.
It is said that they accomplished the very first raid of thousands of paratroops.
This event is often dated to 1935 or 1936.
But what is the precise date ?
I mean the very day ?
It is said that like 6.000 paratroops were concerned, that they jumped from the wings of the planes (!). is it true ? I guess that some got to get killed this way. What about the casualties ?
I want to know more about that very first demo.
It is also said that Herman Göring was present that day in USSR to see the event.
Where did it take place ?
I am very curious about that.
6.000 paratroops' raid is a big thing.
It is said that Hitler was very impressed by it and that after that he asked Göring to do the same.
All infos welcome !
Thanks

Re: Soviet paratroop
Well 1st Airborne forces of the USSR formed in August 1930
USA was dropping M1917 Watercooled Machinegun crews by Parachute in April 1930
https://books.google.com/books?id=TuQDA ... &q&f=false
Billy Mitchell planned to use the 1st US Infantry division as a Parachuted force (Involuntarily) in the 1919 Offensive dropping them near Metz from Handley Page bombers
Goring was quite impressed by the 1st Libyan Parachute unit of the Italian Army
WW2 USSR Paras had a horrific record of defeat and mismanagement. Units were trained as Paras then thrown into line as infantry and the process restarted several times. the Dneiper Op was considered a duck hunt by the Wehrmacht. Of some 4,500 men dropped 230 made it back to soviet lines

An urban legend. Airdrops during training exercises in 1930s were demonstrated to foreign military observers. It is also said that Herman Göring was present that day in USSR to see the event.

Despite i dont think Göring ever been to USSR.
Re: Soviet paratroop
I mean that Göring visiting the Soviet Union is a myth. I can check this early D. Glantz's book for a history of pre-war airborne troops:

Where does Glantz say that Göring was not there ? Which page ?Art wrote: ↑14 Aug 2019, 21:54I mean that Göring visiting the Soviet Union is a myth. I can check this early D. Glantz's book for a history of pre-war airborne troops:

Re: Soviet paratroop
I didn't mean that Glantz said that. Göring visiting the Soviet Union or even marrying a Russian women is a legend becoming popular at Russian journos some years after this book was published. I've just recommended it a source for earlier Soviet airborne troops.

Re: Soviet paratroop
Following the publication of Glantz' book ?
Why people would believe that if Glantz didnt say that in his book ?
Re: Soviet paratroop
Following their own vivid fantasy. Ok, "Göring visit to the USSR" is completely unrelated to the Glantz's book on Soviet airborne experience and I don't think that Glantz ever wrote about it.Following the publication of Glantz' book ?
