Hi,

The name is René Papillon, and he was made naval attaché in 1932. More info on him here:

Following this source René Papillon has died in 1941, but they say nothing about his work during the years 1932-1941. They say nothing about these years, because their source is dated from 1932 (http://www.culture.gouv.fr/LH/LH103/PG/ ... 065594.htm).

So it can be him, but... i have read A. Papillon, not R. Papillon. Of course A and R can be very similar with handcriting ; but anyone could repost the original photo and text we are talking about ? I dont find? It should be possible to distinguish between A and R...
I am intrigued, because it's not impossible that it could be A. Paul Pillon... "Paul Pillon" and "Papillon" are sounding very similar ; so maybe it's an error.

Dear ttvon,

I have help you a few times before regarding identifying officers, and I will gladly do so in the future. However in order to get better and quicker responses it would be most useful if you could provide the information you have about the photo. Source, location, date (also full photo not cropped sections) etc. all important clues to figure who the person might be. Otherwise you have to relay on the sheer luck a member recognising the person.
Kind Regards

Thanks for your help.

The French generals are in prison in 1940-42.
The General on right is General Giraud.

From 033729, also French generals are in prison in 1940-42.
