Poland 1939: KIA German officers

I entered this thread for the first time because of Schusterbauer.
He is here mentioned as an Oberst (I doubt it, an Oberst commanding an Abt. ???), so I guess that he was Obstlt. (so also in div. list) and that he was promoted posthum to Oberst
Rgds.

There are plenty of examples, particularly early in the war, of Oberste commanding Abteilungen/Bataillone. (Also of Generalmajore commanding Regimenter.)
Plus, there is the fact that the Korps KTB, written at the time of Schusterbauer's death, refers to him as "Oberst".
What is the source for this supposed posthumous promotion?

In Scherzer' s list of the 44.ID he is reported as Otl. only (until his death date).
Therefore I assume that he was promoted to Ob. only later (posthum).
If on the contrary he was already Ob. before his death, is there any official evidence (promotion date, RDA, lists, or docs.) for that ?

Scherzer is wrong.

With PV on 20.04.1939 a real "lex austria" promo batch of Austrian officers was processed (see NARA T 77 R-937 0593, 0594, 0595, 0596, 0599).

With effect 01.02.1939 Schusterbauer (Kdr. N. 64) was promoted Oberst with a backdated seniority date (RDA) of 01.07.1937 (17).

2./A.A.5(mot) from 2.Pz.Div.
He was killed in action between Spytkowice and Raba Wyżnia (about 10km from Podwilk).

Zühlke Heinz, 25.09.1916, Oblt., -, -, 09.09.1939 (Bronina), VB

According to Kriegstagebuch der 3.mot.Pionier-Batl.168 Lt. Zuehlke (and NOT Lt. Hülke, as in list of officer losses of VII A.K.) was der Zugfuehrer des 2. Zuges in 3.(mot)/Pi.Btl. 168. Apparently he was posthumously promoted to Oberleutnant.

regarding Hauptmann Madel.. he was wounded (shot in the stomach) while forcing the Warthe on the 06.09., and died in the Lazarett in Blaszki on the 09.09.

Hi,

regarding Holler, Kurt. He felt as Leutnant and Zugführer 2./Pionier-Bataillon 24. He feld nearby Mystkowice at river Bzura. He was left on this place. On the 15th Sept. He was found by advancing german troops (Infanterie-Regiment 32 and parts of 2./Pionier-Bataillon 24) and later was buried on the cemetery in Domaniewice.

Schetelich Siegfried, 05.01.1913, Lt., -, -, 09.09.1939 (Koniecmosty), VB

Lt. Schetelich, Zugfuhrer in Pz.Rgt.31 (5. Pz.Div.), was KIA in Poland in 1939. Probably it's the same person.

Especially that on 8 and 9 September Pz.Rgt.31 fought in that area (Kocina - Ksany & Wiślica - Koniecmosty).

If it comes to Oblt. von Oppel from Pz.Rgt.31, KIA near Ksany - he was Adjutant of II./Pz.Rgt.31.

I can't confirm he was with Pz.Rgt.31. The Nachrichtenblatt of the Regiment which lists the fallen officers in Poland (1939) doesn't mention him. If Pz.Rgt.31 maybe he was an NCO and than later posthumously promoted? Mentioned are:

These photos come from Poland (1939), so I think that Lt.von Keller was KIA in Poland.

Thanks for this excellent find, Kapitan! So we can add von Keller to the Master List!

The date on his grave is 20.09.1939 (if I see correctly) and area around looks like Kampinos Forest (I've seen many photos from Kampinos Forest in September 1939, the tree outlines look pretty similar on each of them):

Now I see that von Keller is already in the Master List. But now we can remove the "fraglich ob Beteiligung am Polenfeldzug" note, and maybe also we can try to establish what was his unit / division.
