Hi Rich,
Thanks for that very challenging quiz photo. I enjoyed the chase but would never have guessed it without your clues. You set the bar high but I'll try with this one.

Hi Max,
A real poser for sure. There is, I think, a tool mounted over the front wing, which makes it look like there are sloping wings, like the post-war Auto Union Munga. My best guess, at this point, is a Hanomag 13B, but with rear "panniers" like the Kfz4 anti-aircraft car. The 13B was so rare that I doubt my guess very much, with around only 50 produced it is unlikely that a Kfz4 was produced for the mountain troops. But, nor the moment, it is all I have.
Kerry.

Hi Kerry,
That is a very, very well thought out answer but is unfortunately incorrect. You are correct that it is a very rare vehicle, however.
Cheers,
Max

Hello Max,
I had my doubts, for the given reasons. Other than the Mercedes-Benz G5 I cannot, at this time, think of an alternative small cross-country model. Very good question, a real test for us all, thank you,
Kerry.

A pre-series Adler V 40 T? Looks somewhat different from the prototype.

Hello Markus,
Yes! I also have it as an Adler V 40 T. As you say, the bodywork looks a little different than this one which I assume was the prototype:

Being that there was no serial production, only 6 or 7 built, I don't know what would be considered the standard bodywork or if they were all more or less custom.

From Oswald (Google translation) by way of https://www.multi-board.com/board/index ... er-v-40-t/:
The eagle V 40 T. remained completely unknown to the public . The off-road vehicle with four-wheel drive developed on behalf of the Luftwaffe was to be suitable for air transport. They wanted to use it at field airfields, both in the tropics and in the Arctic.
Demanded was optimal off-road capability, which was achieved by a lever system for Raddruckausgleichs.
At the Wehrmacht winter trials in St. Johann, the eagle mastered all the slopes of the test track without snow chains, while all other cars drove with snow chains.
A special feature for those terms was the closed cooling system, which ensured the same degree of operational reliability in hot and frosty conditions.
In the winter of 41/42 the OKW was looking for a suitable off-road vehicle for a tour of inspection by the Reich Minister Todt to the eastern front, which had fallen into a severe crisis.
The choice fell on the Adler V 40 T, which proved its worth on this occasion.
The Minister drove to the deep snow front front, then 30 km from Moscow, but then began the return journey by plane, with which he crashed deadly on 8.2.1942.
The Adler SUV found its way back to work safely. Meanwhile, 6 pre-series vehicles were completed and destined for the war effort in Africa.
They were taken by air over the Mediterranean, but only partially reached their destination.
Further on, nothing more was heard of these Adler field mobiles, for the African campaign was already collapsing at the time.
In any case an extremely rare and seldom photographed bird perhaps deserving of a thread unto itself.
Excellent work, Markus- now over to you.
Cheers,
Max

Markus,
Fantastic answer, a vehicle I, and I suspect many others on the forum, had never heard of. Great research and knowledge, thank you for answering and thank you Max for finding a photo of such a rare vehicle. Just what this forum is for.
Best regards,
Kerry.

Hi Kerry,
I was thinking the same thing. I was not familiar with the Hanomag 13B until you mentioned it in your initial response. Hopefully we can all learn a little something from each other here, even though I have a lot more to learn than most!
Cheers,
Max

I suspect the Research Staff of the MCFA are working overtime to come up with an unsolvable quiz puzzle. :)

Sorry Max,

Have no worthy follower to your last question... Actually I think I do but do not know the answers myself.

Also apologies for the long delay. I have contracted a new curse of the drinking classes which keeps me comatose after working hours (and sometimes during).

Anyhoo, here's an unworthy follow-up. Note the subtly concealed maker's mark.

Hi Markus,
That's a rare one for sure. It looks similar to a MIAG Straßenschlepper Type ID 20 F:

Hi Max,

That is what I thought too.

Here's the MIAG-badged photo.
AHF210a.jpg
For some reason other ID 20 F photos I've seen have the MIAG logo offset to the right while this one has it on the grille centre line (and a couple of bonnet louvres more).

Back to you,

Markus

If you are looking for a clue, look west of Germany.
