Re: Show us your helmets
I am planning to do a winter camo helmet over the next couple of months. Picked up a few new techniques which should work well for the snow finish. Also got another Heer DAK helmet to do which I'm looking forward to getting stuck into.

DG-
Well, be sure to do 2 at a time- I'm interested in both styles! Love your work.
Can't wait to see them finished.

Re: Show us your helmets
Hi everybody first post on the site! how are you all? wanted to post my first attempt at a helmet reproduction from an original ET shell. It's meant to be combat worn and scuffed up, as if the owner has had it for a month or so in the field. not in any way meant to be "antique". I've attached the original state of the shell with the modern paint then the finished product for comparison. I think I need to fade the decal a little and the liner and drawstring. What do you all think?
Re: Show us your helmets

Re: Show us your helmets
Hello friends!
I have a few questions.
Please, look this decals
The flag N-1, I am thinking this is original decal. It's done with the same technology like wehrmacht decals . It has glue base, and deep colour. It shows the illusion of depth around the perimeter.
This helmet has old eagle decal and sold for 4200$
The flag N-2, We can see on top is cleaned glue, in down possible to see cleaned surfaces the helmet and some part of decal. It clearly visible surface lighter than other parts of decal and helmet. Now it's selling 1500$
The swastika. I did highest resolution as possible. That's all I can. Because the seller didn't send me better photos.
I don't like to see on perimeter saw tooth. Like modern pixels print. I am thinking in 1940 nobody heard about pixels and borders must have solid toothless paint.
I had checked many decals in internet, I didn't saw swastika without saw. Maybe one or two I have seen without saw . Somebody said - 90% of Luftwaffe decals is fake. I can buy very good helmet without decals but 300$, but fake decals it's mean- without decals
Gentlemen, what do you think about this? Or does the camera make pixels?
Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native
Best regards Vik

Re: Show us your helmets
So here's how my M42 came out - I used the same amount of weathering as my last one, the M40. Also ageing the liner slightly and adding a name. I also put the M40 again at the end, as I added a chicken wire basket to it. Honest Opinions welcome!
I have some questions though - I got my paint from warhats and bought their aluminium oxide - I have a Wagner spray gun, I sprayed the combined texture through the gun to get an even effect, which worked. I've noticed on both helmets the paint has started going smooth and the rough texture seems to flatten and smooth out. How many coats should I have put on these helmets, does the aluminium oxide effect last longer the more coats I have?
Also - I think I might switch to enamel paints like they used in ww2 - I'm in the UK and have found a company that sells RAL code enamel paint for military vehicles by the litre - it's matt. What are people's opinions on using enamel matts?
Aluminium oxide - is medium grit sand actually better, or larger grit aluminium oxide? It seems to me the stuff sold on various websites is too fine a texture and doesn't look like the original helmets - has anybody found an alternative to this?
thanks in advance, I'm hoping some people might actually answer this!
