Re: US Half Tracks in British use
I forgot to ask you chaps the other day about how the British field their Churchill Crocodile tanks.
I was compiling my Churchill Tank Squadron circa 1944 [thanks to your help of course], and wondered why the Troop HQ didn't have any Crocodile tanks to accompany their CS and ARV tanks.
I suppose that the Crocodiles would be organic to the 79th division, but did they parcell them out to Churchill squadrons?

Re: US Half Tracks in British use
For a long time there was only one Regiment equipped for the Crocodile role (141 RAC). They rejigged their organisation as a result of experience, and had three Sqns each with two HQ tanks (75-mm) , two CS tanks and four Tps; three of the Tps had four tanks and the final one only three. That gave each Sqn 15 Crocodile equipped tanks, and meant a Sqn could be run as two 'half Sqns', one such for each Rifle Coy in an Inf Bn with two Coys up.
141 RAC officially joined 79th Armd Div on 4th Sep 1944, coming under 31st Tk Bde, which became the home for the eventual three Crocodile equipped units.

Thanks Gary, so loking at your data, it seems like the Crocodiles didn't get placed in Churchill Squadrons and acted as Infantry support tanks attacking emplaced enemy positions.
The fact that they had two CS tanks at SHQ, shows that they didn't need the support of Churchill gun tanks.

Crocodiles still had their main gun armament (75-mm) so could fire HE, AP, etc as any standard Churchill tank could, as well as flame.
