Re: Whay does TR means on a Allied Map
It depends on the context and whose maps. The British and US Army used different maps and map marking symbols.
The British did not use the abbreviation TR for anything. R/T means radio telephony.
On WW2 vintage US Maps tr means "truss" (a framework, typically consisting of rafters, posts, and struts, supporting a roof, bridge, or other structure.)
or "Troop(s)"

Could it mean "Tower"? Tr is the abbreviation on the D Day 12,500 defence overprint maps as in "Water Tr"

How about Reconnaissance Tower, as per Sheldrake, there was a water tower there that was being used for reconnaissance, as per Hanny's link.
