Title says it all, All American Patriot Charles Lindbergh wins the White House in 1940 along with a super majority of Republican in both houses.

What would happen?

How would events differ?

Lindbergh was convinced that Germany was unbeatable. And, at his Des Moines, Iowa, speech, he stated that Jews had at least partial blame for the war. He had been thoroughly duped by the Germans when he toured their air bases. They rotated aircraft ahead of him to make it look like they had twice the strength they really had.

And we've seen what happens when an utter amateur at government is elected president, haven't we.

Greetings to both brother Anthonycumia1776 and the community as a whole, Howdy Anthony (or Tony if you so prefer)! Well sir, in reference to your introductory posting of Sunday - November 11, 2019 - 11:35pm, just to sate my curiosity, what would lead you to believe that the Republican Party of year 1940 would consider, much less nominate Charles Lindbergh as its standard bearer for the office of the Presidency OVER that of Wendell Willkie and his projected running mate of Senator Charles L. McNary? Of equal importance, after seven years of quite pragmatic and rational governance by the ever popular administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, what epic event OR events would transpire to trigger the seismic shift in the Seventy Seventh United States Congress which would hand the Republican Party clear majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate? Finally, apart from Charles Lindbergh becoming the Republican Party's Presidential standard bearer in year 1940, then who, in your learned opinion, would be Charles Lindbergh's Vice Presidential running mate? Father Charles Coughlin? Industrialist Henry Ford? Fritz Kuhn of the German-American Bund? Yes, there is much to ponder in terms of what would happen and how events might differ in this colorful scenario of yours. Well, that's my initial two Yankee cents worth on this ideological sojourn down the primrose path to perdition - for now anyway. In any case, I would like to bid you an especially copacetic day from sea to shining sea.

Best Regards,
Uncle Bob  :|

The US was caught with its pants down, both militarily and industrially in WW2; so (another?) isolationist in the White House would not greatly alter the probability of direct attacks on the USA, or its ability to fight back. However, the distances involved from both Japan and Germany would be the same; so geographic "armour" would exist for the foreseeable future.

Lindbergh opposed Lend-Lease, so the UK would likely be reliant more on its Dominions for supplies prior to Pearl Harbor. Whether Britain would survive is another story. The US would not likely provide supplies or convoy escorts, so the proxy war the US Navy engaged in the Atlantic in 1941 was just as unlikely. Since these convoys were the main origin of Hitler's scorn vs USA; it is also not likely Hitler would declare war on America on Dec 10, 1941.

Let's assume Pearl Harbor does occur as IRL. Once the USA had been dragged into war, Lindbergh would energetically organize his nation; but only vs Japan. He was a committed anti-Bolshevik and I don't think he would openly help the USSR. So In this case, I predict an Axis victory in Europe but still a defeat for Japan.

Let's not forget that Lindy was an egotist and narcissist, so working with him would be difficult.

The GOP put up an interventionist candidate in 1940 in the real world. The boy from Elwood, Indiana, would go on to work for FDR after the war started, until his untimely death.

If Lindbergh becomes president and pursues a policy of strict neutrality (no sanctions on Japan, no lend-lease or even weapons sales to Britain), then Britain and the Soviet Union are doomed. US lend-lease saved both the Soviet Union and the British. Germany conquers the Soviet Union up to at least the Volga, and Japan takes and holds the southeast Pacific. British forces in Egypt are left stranded, and eventually the Italians and Japanese link up in the Indian Ocean.

Britain can probably hold out against invasion for several years, but without US support they probably just ask Germany for peace in November 1940 after Lindbergh is elected.

When you have major media outlets/companies pushing for war when the nation is overwhelming against it then as now, you start to have to wonder who wants the nation to fight in a war that does not concern them and what their interests really are because clearly it is not in line with the nation.

As for the display, always looking strong has always been a great tactic since Sun Tzu.

What happens when an utter amatur takes power? You mean putting one's nation ahead of a handful on outsider`s interests, putting the Citizen ahead of the outsider, energy independence and dealing with the enemies of the people those overseas and within the nation, oh yes, so awful, nothing like those of the elite class who fight to keep the borders wide open, import the most hostile and backward hordes into the nation, get us into pointless wars that at best waste trillions and at worse generations of our youth to the benefit of a handful of people, such great tactics that from such great people total havent wreaked this nation, right?

Too hell with the "Professional class" and those nation wreckers like Wilson, FDR, LBJ, and the Bushes.

Seeing the "wonderful" benefits of the end of the second world war (spread of communism, cultural marxist infection of the west, anytime European peoples dare advance our own interests being seen as the same so called "greatest threat" we wasted so much to defeat) its becoming clear that the second world war, just like the first was a totally avoidable, pointless, destructive war foisted on us by a handful of people hellbent to wreak the western world and amass control of it in a weakened state on the premise of arrested development.

If the US continues to sell oil to the Brits the Japanese weren't going to be getting oil from us anyway. Same with scrap metals if the US is rearming.

Charles Lindbergh would be a powerhouse for the following reasons.

1.Popularity, EVERYONE knew Lucky Lindy, he was a hero for his deeds. That alone saves millions in ad and saves time spreading the name of a candidate/message.

2.Wide spread support, he had the backing of people people for his outspoken against many FDR's policies, and was the leader of the America First movement, promising NOT to lead us into a pointless war, as well as supporting policies that would restore American industry, prosperity, and independence and reverse the insanity that was FDR, he had a very broad coalition that would have starved out FDR, even with the media backing that he enjoyed.

What would happen? Public backlash against FDR`s policies, the failure of the National Recovery Act to end the depression (it caused it to drag on needless), the Gold Confiscation Act, the public turning against the infringements on the 1st and 2nd amendment to the benefit of the hostile elite (Central Bankers and Military Industrial Media Complex) that he refuses to stop or works with, the rise of radical groups like the Communist Party seeking to undermine the nation, factor this is with the promise of a restoration of Freedom, Peace, and Independence would make massively popular to the vast majority of America, back then America was a unified nation, not a bunch of imported strangers, mental ill nutjobs or brainwashed and self hating useful idiots so it be massively supportive of the electorate.

I would think the Good Father Charles Coughlin would be smarter then to get involved in the 2nd oldest profession, and to be honest he did more good on the radio, and its little wonder why they tried to shut him down, but I think he could have done his duty to country and clergy while a senator.

Henry Ford, truely an All American American, Driven, innovative, and never afraid to speak the truth, I could not see him in such a role, but then again, few could see a man like Henry changing the world with his Model-T. Already an American Hero so I can see the clear cut advantage.

Khun? Not a chance, a no one and a foreign sounding man who at best brings nothing but baggage.

Montana Senator Burton K. Wheeler would be a great running mate, maybe not as good as Charles or Henry, but is a proven fighter for Americans rather than internationalists.

World War I and II shattered the power of smug European elitists who thought they could go into other people's lands, colonize them, and exploit them for natural resources. I say good riddance.

Lindbergh was the leaders of the Committee to Defend America First.

Gallup poll for January 7, 1941:
JANUARY 7

REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

Interviewing Date 11/17-22/39

Survey #177-A Question #9c

Asked of Republicans: Whom would you like to see the Republican party nominate for President this year?

Dewey............................. 60%

Vandenberg........................16

Taft................................ 11

Hoover............................. 5

James..............................1

Lodge.............................. 1

Bricker............................. 1

Borah.......................... 1

Landon............................ 1

Others.............................3

Thirty-seven per cent expressed no opinion.
Lindbergh didn't have enough support for the presidency to make the polls list of candidates.
