Hi Bert and Rich,
I'm not 100% either but the body type looks like an LF-15.
Great photos, Bert.

Hello Bert.SIS 5 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2019, 10:51Hi Max,
fortunately I have the booklet "Reichsautozug "Deutschland" und der Hilfszug "Bayerm" " by Horst Hinrichsen and so I can answer to Your question. The "Reichsautozug "Deutschland" was an instrument of the propaganda in this time. The vehicles and the equipment should prepare and accompany big events of the Nazi party NSDAP and the Third Reich. Here a paper of the propaganda ministry:
"The "Reichsautozug "Deutschland" is serving the purposes of the propaganda, the separate platoons shall be used during big events to install quickly the loudspeakers at such demonstrations. Special vehicles with all modern equipment for the transmission by radio and wireless are available for this purpose".
The "Reichsautozug "Deutschland" was ordered at the end 1933 by the Nazis at the Magirus company in Ulm. The appropriate equipment of loudspeakers could supply up to 300.000 visitors with propagandistic slogans at such demonstrations, for example at the Reichsparteitag in Nuremberg or at the big events 1st May Labor Day. The "Reichsautozug "Deutschland" had its first public appearance during the official opening of the part of the Reichsautobahn (motorway) between Cologne and Düsseldorf.
The "Reichsautozug "Deutschland" hat four platoons. First the platoons had not so many vehicles:
- the main platoon "Munich" with 21 vehicles
- the platoon "Donau" (Danube) with six vehicles
- the platoon "Rheinland" (Rhineland) with six vehicles
- the platoon "Niedersachsen" (Lower Saxony) with six vehicles
Later the platoons got additional vehicles and at the end each of these four platoons had more than 80 vehicles.
Here the structure of the "Reichsautozug "Deutschland":
I. radio broadcast communication and transmission equipment
II. sound film recording and reproduction
III. central power station
IV. installation and construction platoon
V. transport platoon in the concentration area
VI. material and personnel transport platoon
VII. ration supply - medical and repair platoon
Best regards
Bert
I'd like to thank you very much for such a complete answer to my question and the research and translation involved. I now have a clear understanding of the mission of the Reichsautozug (propaganda and communications) with respect to that of the Hilfzug Bayern (emergency medical services, food services, etc.). Thanks again, I knew I would get the answer here on the Forum!
Cheers,
Max

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Max,
thanks to You, too, for posting the two pics with vehicles of the Reichsautozug "Deutschland". Here two pics of the Magirus bus type M 50 with six cylinders and 210 hp:
here the so-called "Regie- und Kommandowagen" (direction and command vehicle) with an extendable observation post, amplifiers and message / signal center. The message / signal center consisted of a half-automatic telephone central and a fully automatic home central. They could install 30 official telephone lines and up to 200 local stations. The observation tower could be extended up to six meters. So the bigger events (concentrations and demonstrations) could be directed from the upper platform of the tower. This platform could also be used by a propaganda speaker.
Best regards
Bert

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Bert, hi Rich, hi Max,
Max, I agree with You, that it is a "Löschgruppenfahrzeug LF 15". For me it is a Mercedes-Benz type L 3000 F. Here two pics for comparing, one from the war, the other of a still existing vehicle in Taufkirchen in Bavaria, built 1943.
Best regards
Bert

The radiator cowl in the first photo looks more square to me like the KD S 3000 than rectagular like the MB. But the front bumper and fenders look more MB plus the lack of lockers below the cabin and what appears to be a hose attached to the running board support your assertion. Good job.

The reason why I was noncommital on this was that like Rich, I thought the radiator shell looked more "squarish" like the KD but the headlamp position on the wings fit more the Mercedes. Maybe it's a partial radiator mask like in Bert's first photo, but no question, I believe Bert is correct on the L 3000 F.

Max

Thanks for those 2 fantastic photos and information of the custom M 50's. I find it interesting interesting that Magirus also custom built the fleet of beautiful Hilfzug Bayern vehicles, mainly M 50's as well.

Hi Max,
Magirus delivered also a very special vehicle on the chassis of the Magirus M 206, a so-called installation tower vehicle. The extended tower was swivelling 360 degrees and had a crane on the top for the diverse installations.
Best regards
Bert

Hi Jose,
it could be a Mercedes-Benz type 290. Here a pic of such a Kübelwagen, built 1933/34 out of the book "Mercedes PKW und LKW 1935 - 1945" by Dr. Hans-Georg Mayer-Stein.
Best regards
