Best female pentathletes photo

Hello, everyone

I was browsing through various "Signal" magazines today and found this interesting photo, which was new to me, so I thought I might share it.

Dr Karl Ritter von Halt decorates the best German female pentathletes with honourary badges.

Hello, Greg

I was in a bit of a hurry taking photos of some other reports, and I took only this one photo from this particular report. Sorry about that. I assume it's the Deutsche Leichtathletik-Meisterschaften, likely from the same year (1943), but not necessarily (if anyone has "Signal" 18/1943, please check). There's nothing else mentioned in this photo's caption except that von Halt was one of the worldwide known German sport leaders.

According to this article - Deutsche Leichtathletik-Meisterschaften 1943 - the best three female pentathletes of that year were Maria Staudt, Ruth Böllinghaus and Gerda Rothemund.

The stadium isn't empty, the crowd is obscured by the girls :)

Cheers,
Ivan

They look remarkably robust and well fed for mid war. Did top flight athletes get a special ration allowance?

Indeed, did any other groups have special ration allowances?

Many people in mid- to late-war Germany still looked "robust".

Thanks Ivan. Looks like that group received badges for attendance only. They were not the medalists.

Hi GregSingh,

If the also-rans look that robust, the actual winners must have been truly impressive!

Cheers,

Sid.
