AFAIK von Canstein got RK as Kdr of GR 220 so had to wear white Waffenfarbe, meanwhile we can see rather red. And the jacket gives idea about Sturmartillerie...

That's correct. But this pic. is part of a bigger pic. that was taken at the surrender of Bremen to the Britisch troops on 8 may '45.
At that time he was an Obst. and commander of Cavalry Rgt.41.
