Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
great pictures! off-topic question: i have noticed, that many german officers were wearing long coates during normandy. was it so cold in june/july 44?
Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
There were some nasty storms and wet weather in June 1944. The weather is changeable in Normandy. 1940's wet weather kit was a long coat. Goretex had not been invented.
I wonder if Rommel wore a long coat because he spent a lot of time in an open topped car.

Hello: No one for the above photo???
Here a couple more, any one for ID´ing the persons and if possible the location and date, please:
Photo 1 is of the railway station of Le Mans, Rommel arriving (can we see von Rundstedt in this picture too??)
Photo 2 is 10/2-1944 in Le Verdon. We see (I think) Generalleutnant Wilck, Generalleutnant Meise, Kapitän z. See Michahelles (Seekdt. Gascogne) please correct me if I am wrong

Yes, we can.
That's right.
Best,
Gregg
Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
Apperantly it's the 'halbinsel Cotentin'. Attached a slightly better version, maybe the officers can be identified.kstdk wrote: ↑12 Apr 2012, 13:21

Anyone who can see where this is?
Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
There are hints that this is 'Boulogne'.
Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
Most likely 'Boulogne'.K-Sperren, verankerter (20 mm Trosse oder Kette) schwimmender Holzbalken met T-Minen. In 4 m Wassertiefe bei Ebbe verlegt. Sperre bei Hoch- und Niedrigwasser.
Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
From the Belgian resistance. Should give some new insights I hope.

Hello
414 and 415 I have not seen before with an exact location.
416 is in Hans Sakkers book about Rommel at page 96 with the caption: "8.3.1944 Bretagne, Strand von Lannilis" Mentioned officers in this photo could be: Generalleutnant Karl Spang / 226 I.D. and maybe Generalleutnant Richard Schimpf / 3 Fallsch. Jg. Div. and Viceadmiral Ruge is there also. General d. Infanterie Straube is also mentioned - but I can only ID Rommel and Ruge.
417 no idea - yet
Best Regards

Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
Hello again
The last pictures from Belgium dated 17.3.1944 - date is not right!!
At 17.3.1944 Rommel was at La Roche Guyon and went on a trip to Paris at the 16´th - and again at the 17´th from Paris by train to Berchtesgaden from where he was back at the 22 of march.
So it must have been from an earlier trip to Belgium, maybe december 1943??
