Re: Handwriting help
Thanks! As "Starosta" is a Slavic word, it doesn't seem to make any sense in connection with Luxemburg, but a quick glance at Volksbund showed that it could also be a surname, with about 40+ soldiers of that surname listed as KIA/MIA.

Re: Handwriting help
This one I've deciphered in part. Something about "Bunker" and "Maginotlinie". Can someone fill in the rest?
Re: Handwriting help
What I can add:
Vor Bunkeranl. ... [Bunkeranlage]
Maginotlinie
Vor Bunkeranl. ... [Bunkeranlage]
Maginotlinie

Re: Handwriting help
Here's a photo of a knocked out Renault R35. It is known from at least three other photos, but this particular pic is in my collection. The tank has the serial number 51088, but the location for the photo(s) isn't known. It's my belief that the scribble on the back of my photo might be the name of the place, but I need help figuring it out.

Re: Handwriting help
My post was lost in the transfer, as was the reply from GregSingh. I'm reposting the photos, and hope for the best.
This photo shows Luftwaffe personnel in Finland. I think I get some of the text right: "Einige von Ehrenzug für unsere Gefallene." "Some [men] of our honour platoon for our fallen." Then there's a placename I can't make out, ending with "42/Suomi" (= Finland). I would like help to figure out the location.

Re: Handwriting help
Thanks! Could be Taivalahti just outside of Helsinki. A few luftwaffe units were based there for a while.
1. / Aufklärungsgruppe 125 (See)
3. / Aufklärungsgruppe 125 (See)
gemischte Flak-Abteilung 341 (v)
It remains to be seen how that gels with the soldiers in the photo. I'm looking into LW personnel losses in Finland in 1942.

Not only your post and Greg´s explanation of the place but also my correction which you did remember almost correctly.B Hellqvist wrote: ↑09 Jan 2020, 05:08My post was lost in the transfer, as was the reply from GregSingh.[...] I think I get some of the text right: "Einige von Ehrenzug für unsere Gefallene." Re: Handwriting help
I've figured out who the guys in the photo are. They belong to the Luftwaffen-Fährenflotille II or III, operating on Lake Ladoga. There was a Taivallahti there before the Finns lost the area to the USSR. The soldiers probably attended the memorial service for the men lost when three Siebel ferries were sunk in a battle on 22 October, 1942.
