Drawings I made showing some of the Henschel factory applied Tiger II paint schemes. I left out the dotting, see various Tiger photos for more inspiration. In the drawings, black is RAL 8017 brown, gray is RAL 6003 green and white is RAL 7028 gray.

Photos showing Tigers with their blue numbers. Page 1 shows 501 SS Abt. HQ Tigers 008 and 009 in December, page 2 shows first #222 in December, then a color photo of #332 at Aberdeen, then 101 SS Abt. #112 with zimmerit taken in the late summer of 1944 before the factory itself applied every one of the three basic colors, all having their Abt. unit applied blue RAL 5001 numbers with white outlines.

Photos of the right sides of 501 SS Tigers #008 and #204, also one of 101 SS tiger #112 that better shows its blue numbers.

All those colour photos are after the original was repainted.

I did not understand–is factory color of the tank or post-war the color of americans?

Re: 501 SS Tiger paint colors late 1944
It seems the supposed 'colourized' photo Miles posted matches the supposed 'repainted' (3rd and 4th) very well.
The first 2 you posted would seem to be at closer to arrival (at Aberdeen) and possibly then put in an indoor setting. The spare tracks being hung the same.
Does anyone have a source of when or if they were repainted?

Panzer 112 B&W photo is in sunlight and clearly shows a much lighter color than the black in the cross. My guess on the intent is to not be readable at any range beyond what the platoon might deploy in. That is, not to be discernable by an enemy that could ID a platoon/Company leader vehicle.Miles Krogfus wrote: ↑11 Jan 2020, 22:31Photos of the right sides of 501 SS Tigers #008 and #204, also one of 101 SS tiger #112 that better shows its blue numbers.

Re: 501 SS Tiger paint colors late 1944
As Michael K pointed out, all of the color photos shown of 332 were repaints, some done long after the war while at APG. The only real evidence for turret number colors in s. SS-Pz.Abt. 501 that I am aware of is the fact that when 332 arrived at APG in the summer of 1945, it was filmed with color film that appears to show light blue numbers outlined in yellow. COL Jarrett, then curator of the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum at APG, stated that the tank arrived at APG with turret numbers of those colors. A lot more info on 332 in particular and s. SS-Pz.Abt. 501 tanks in general is in the "Tigers in the Ardennes" book.

Re: 501 SS Tiger paint colors late 1944
Here are (page 1) a RAL Farbentabelle that lists Wehrmacht colors, including the two blue ones RAL 5001 or 32, and RAL 5002 or 32h which is called hellblau but is similar in color to RAL 5001 (see page 3). The list (page 2)) of Technische Lieferbedingungen (TL) documents that give the exact colors to use on various things only lists RAL 5001 not RAL 5002. See TL 6316B, 6320, 6323 and 6329. 101/501 SS men would not have RAL 5002 at unit level to paint tank numbers.

TL 6316 B of February 23,1942 lists RAL 5001 for use. When TL 6316 was issued on September 1,1938 it also only listed RAL 5001, that is 32, the blau color to be used.
