Photos from Johann Niemann (Sobibor) collection
Re: Photos from Johann Niemann (Sobibor) collection
Here's a photograph from the Niemann album alongside W. Rutherford's 2005 map of Sobibor (c. 1943). By my estimation, the photograph looks north east from a location roughly equivalent to the red square next to the number 11 on the map, which I assume is the location of a guard tower. The angle and elevation of the photograph suggests it was taken from the tower. We see the extreme south east corner of the camp, an area which, on Rutherford's map, corresponds to buildings 12, 13, and 5 through 9.
In the foreground is a guard hut: another is visible to the right of the gate on the right of the photo. The shack like structure in the left middle distance is labeled as a "storage hut" by Rutherford, and if that ID is right, then we see the extreme right hand gable end and wall of the SS accommodations at far left. The buildings in the distance are, right to left, speculatively identified as the Ukrainian jail, SS canteen and kitchen (perhaps two buildings rather than the L-shaped structure on Rutherford's map), perhaps the SS garage and, the commandant's house, the Schwalbennest.

Nope, disregard that. The more I look, the more I see he resembles Pötzinger most.

No Blankenburg was not posted in Italy. He visited Trieste a number of times (there are photos in our book "Globocnik's men in Italy') but he was not there attached to Abteilung R.Max Williams wrote: ↑29 Jan 2020, 18:14Yes, he was in Trieste attached to Abteilung R as a member of the staff of the Führerkanzlei.

On the Berlin photo, the Trawniki on the right does not look like Bienemann, but rather like Libodenko / Lebodenko.

Re: Photos from Johann Niemann (Sobibor) collection
Does anyone know if the Metropole link above is the HardBack version ? The paperback is at that same price with the same ISBN here:
https://www.bookdepository.com/Fotos-au ... 3863315061
So I am wondering if the metropole link is the Hard back or Paper back and if its the paperback where can you get the hardback edition from ?

The button at the bottom of the page says ebook/pdf but I am just waiting for the invoice to see if I get charged for shipping to see if it is actually a real book or an ebook. No idea about hard or paperback if it is a real book.
Re: Photos from Johann Niemann (Sobibor) collection
Just received my invoice from Metropol Verlag and it is an ebook for 23 Euros, not a physical hardback/paperback type of book which is 29 Euros and looks to be a hardback version.
It looks to be a well published book. Plenty of narrative to set the details and the photos are shown either one or two photos per page with text captions as well. I will wait to see if it is going to be translated before I go for the physical type of book but one way or the other I will buy that version as well.

I contacted them, the 29EUR one is hardback. I've ordered it and received a notification but haven't actually paid yet, bit of an odd system but so long as it works this looks very interesting.

Re: Photos from Johann Niemann (Sobibor) collection
We'll have to disagree on that. You are right that he was not posted to Trieste, but he was responsible for the transfer and subsequent employment of Abteilung R Reichskanzlei personnel under the command of HSSPF OZAK. Otherwise, why on earth did he ever go to Trieste on a number of occasions?Stefano wrote: ↑29 Jan 2020, 20:59No Blankenburg was not posted in Italy. Re: Photos from Johann Niemann (Sobibor) collection
The question was "Did Blankenburg serve under the Globocnik in Trieste?" I think the reply to that is surely not. He was also not attached to Abteilung R, rather this was under his control. Otherwise you are right that Abteilung R men in the OZAK were ultimately under the authority of the Reichskanzlei in the person of Blankenburg.
