New book about the war in Austria 1945 by Helion to be released.
Helion is supposed to release "Killing Hitler's Reich: The Battle for Austria 1945" by Bill Webb. It looks interesting.

I don't know? That's the only thing making me a little apprehensive about this book...

Well, let's be fair: I had never heard of George Nipe either but three of the finest books I own -- Decision in Ukraine, Last Victory in Russia, and Blood, Steel and Myth -- are written by him.krichter33 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2018, 10:38I don't know? (I believe Nipe was the linebacker coach at Arkansas Tech University at the time he wrote his books).

Hello Bill! (Lol)
Wish you well with your book.
This does look interesting
I don’t know anything about this so I should
order a copy. Did not know the SS fell apart
there...,hope to learn about some Gauleiters
and how they fled the scene.

The whole campaign was so much bigger than I ever imagined when I started the book. I had over 800 sources, although the bibliography lists about 300. I hope you enjoy it. Also, if you prefer audiobooks, today was the release day.

You are not allowed to provide samples?WorldwarBill wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 06:12
I don't, although I wish that I did. Publishers like Helion control all of that stuff pretty tightly, unlike the publishers for my fiction.

Nope. Sorry. Now maybe once the ebook is released there will be one, but my contract forbids me even posting an excerpt here. I wish I could, I really do.Cult Icon wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 06:26You are not allowed to provide samples?WorldwarBill wrote: ↑12 Feb 2020, 06:12

I have had this book for a couple of months but have only just started to read it due to my 'to read' pile being of a fair size. It is of the usual Helion standard and the narrative starts on the 1st April and continues to follow the battle on an almost daily basis. The maps (which are clear to follow) are printed on their own page so each page is either 100% narrative or one of the 10 maps with the narrative being substantial. Bearing in mind I have only just started the book, from a glance through it I would say you can tell how well researched it is by the inclusion of a lot of ad-hoc units and kampfgruppen such as Sperrverband Motschmann, Alarm-Bataillon 2 of Luftkriegschule 7, Kampfgruppe Semmering and SS-Regiment Ney just to give a handful of examples. The narrative predominately follows the numerous German units from the very top down but there is also coverage of the Russians and Americans including departments such as O5 that were trying to set up a pseudo-government in Vienna.
Early days yet but I have a feeling that this is going to be a must have for those seeking details on one of the least known, and last, battles of WW2. Reasonably priced with copies available for around £24 and if you have signed up for Amazon's audiobook thingy it is free although as I am not a fan of audiobooks, especially for military books such as this one, I can not say what that is like.

Hello hucks,
Unfortunately there is NO bookshop in Germany where you can take a look inside this book.
There is no real "market" for this books in Germany...
This country is politically correct (?)
