Hi, this is ID'ed as Generalmajor Johann Blücher ( viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14230&p=1178366&hil ... r#p1178366 ), but the only Heer general I know with that name - Johann Albrecht von Blücher - looks quite different. So which Blücher is this? Thank you in advance.

Hi Gregg
I' m curious, how can You assert that he is a bavarian general ? Do You know who ?
Apart that he looks quite similar to Blücher (in fact this photo was recognized as Blücher....)

Hi Rossano,

The second ribbon on his ribbon bar is very likely the Kgl. Bayer. Militär-Verdienstorden IV. Klasse mit Schwertern.
That's why he is probably Bavarian.

Best regards,
Nicolas

Regarding the officer in the first post, it's not just the presence of the Militär-Verdienstorden that makes him Bavarian - many non-Bavarians also received the decoration. What makes him Bavarian is (1) that style of ribbon bar is strongly associated with Bavaria and (2) the fourth ribbon is that of the Bavarian Army Jubilee Medal, so either the 1905 jubilee or the 1911 Prinzregent-Luitpold-Medaille on the ribbon of the jubilee.

Regarding Johann Albrecht von Blücher, his awards were posted in the "Orden und Ehrenzeichen of some generals" but I might as well re-post them here:

24.12.1914 Großherzoglich Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches Militärverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse
15.11.1914 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse
20.07.1916 Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz
09.05.1917 1914 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse
12.11.1918 Großherzoglich Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches Militärverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse
xx.xx.193x Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
02.10.1936 Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 2. Klasse
05.03.1937 Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichnung 1. Klasse
xx.xx.19xx 1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuze 2. Klasse
xx.xx.19xx 1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuze 1. Klasse

You are quite right, Dave. This officer in the first post was misidentified as Johann Blücher, but it is Hermann Kruse.
