In the summer of 1942, 3./993 and 1./993 were already in position at Nieuwpoort, armed with 4 cm Flak.
Does any one knows their exact location?

Why would the Germans use the 5 cm Flak for Flak school training only here? Limited amount of 5 cm ammunition?

Sources about the 5 cm flak gun in Allied intelligence summaries from the Normandy campaign include:

‘5 cm Flak 41’. This is a technical description of a 5 cm anti-aircraft gun captured by U.S. forces in the Cotentin peninsula. The weapon was used by a unit belonging to 30th Flak Regiment. See Part II of British Second Army’s Intelligence Summary No.33, issued 8 July 1944 (UK National Archives, WO 171/221).

‘German medium AA artillery’. This is a detailed technical report about the gunsight used by 5 cm flak guns of a type operated by one of 30th Flak Regiment’s battalions (see section 13.3. below). The weapon was quite rare and although known about for some time, no examples were captured before D-Day. This is probably why its gunsight was given so much attention. See Part II of First Canadian Army’s Intelligence Summary No.56, issued 24 August 1944 (UK National Archives, WO 179/2606A).

There are probably entries in U.S. G-2 periodic reports from the Cotentin peninsular campaign but I only have FUSA ones for that period, not those produced by VII Corps or its subordinate divisions. I imagine USAAF technical experts would also have inspected the examples found in the Cotentin and written up the results.

Studying the Liberation of the French city of Angers in August 1944, I've come across the after action report of the 735th Tank Battalion and the mention of "2 dual purpose 50 mm guns" captured near that city.

The only dual purpose 50 mm gun I can think of is the 5 cm Flak 41 with its primary AA and secondary AT capabilities.

Regarding the 57 mm AA gun, I think it is simply a 3.7 mm Flak gun.

In the French book "Seine de guerre 26 Août - 31 Août 1944" related to the British run to the Seine , there is a picture with the caption indicating a 5 cm Flak 41 destroyed at La Mailleraye (on the left bank of the Seine downstream Rouen, one of several ferry crossing points of the river).

But I have a hard time confirming it's a 5 cm Flak 41 in the first place.

Any thoughts?
