I am trying to track down details, especially displacements in grt but also casualties, for a number of ships lost in US air attacks.
For this inquiry I am seeking details of
Shinhei and Toa Marus lost at Kwajaelin in a carrier raid on February 1 1942
Chichibu, Kiku, Toku and Ume Marus in a carrier raid at Anguar on March 30 1944
Hihode Maru #2 and Ume Maru #51 in a carrier raid on Mapia on April 21 1944.
Any help would be appreciated

What types of ships were they? Transports, tankers, etc.?

All of them are merchant ships. I suspect most are freighters but some might be tankers. This is one of the things I am trying to discover

I checked 喪失船舶一覧表 List of lost vessels edited by 船舶運営会 Ship Management Association. It lists ships losses with day by day basis. But I couldn’t find above unfortunately.

Can you read Kanji?

Thank you Fontessa-san for your l message.
I will try to down-load that site to expand my data base.
Sadly I am very ignorant and read only a few Kanji characters; Maru, Air Strike, Torpedo, Mine, Collision, Stranding, Storms and Explosion.
However, I can often find the name of the ship by cross-checking date, displacement, cause of loss and latitude and longtitude. But obviously there are limitations.
I am trying to assemble alphabetical and chronological lists in tabular form of merchant ships of 100 grt and above which were lost during the war. This is in connection with another project. Increasingly I suspect that most of the ships for which I lack details were either under 100 grt or were sailing vessels.
If I can make a little more progress, or if anyone can help me through the forum or back channels, I will be happy to share my research.
