Italian coast gun
Re: Italian coast gun
Nobody for my last images ?
Well, here another question, The first two images belongs to the same photo serie. The gun was identified by ludvig as an Cannone da 152/50 (Armstrong).
viewtopic.php?f=70&t=166653&hilit=Italian+coastal
Is the gun of the third image the same gun model ? I can some differences...
In fact, it is difficult to secure but they look like guns of different caliber, although could be due to the angle of the image..
Somebody?

Welcome to the forum, shultz..
The incorporation of new members is always appreciated, especially those interested in the issue of artillery.
I am a little confused with your answers.
Well, I think the 152/40 A have a large recoil cylinder above the gun barrel...and the gun of my image have two smaller cyilnders...
As far as I know Italy had the following coastal 152mm guns:
Cannone da 152-40: A large recoil cylinder above the gun barrel (image 1)
Cannone da 152-45: Two smaller cyilnders (image 2)
Cannone da 152-50: Two smaller cyilnders reaching to the edge of the barrel breech (image 3)

Image 1 is 152/40 on carriage "Tipo Ammiragliato" , but there are many other types : 1 big cylinder under the barrel is "Tipo Piemonte" , and there are carriages with 3 cylinders under the barrel .
Image 2 in ok 152/45 , there are many types of carriage but always 25 little cylinders over and 1 little under the barrel .
Image 3 is 120/45 A1918 (Armstrong Pozzuoli)
Cannone da 152/50 also there are many types, (152/50 R.E. or Regio Esercito with 3 cylinders under the barrel and 152/50 A1918 R.M. or Regia Marina with 2 over and 1 under the barrel) and many different carriages.
Next time I will also try to put photos or drawings. Regards

Ok, thanks for your information, shultz.
I look forward you shed some light on this topic....
In any case, I still think that the last photo in my latest post (24690) looks like a gun with a larger caliber than 120mm....

Re: Italian coast gun
First, i am sorry and the 152/45 has only 2 and not 25 upper cylinders !! and 1 under the barrel , and this is the Regia Marina version (Italian Navy) used on ships and land pedestal carriages , Ansaldo made also the 152/45 RE with a land carriage and 3 upper cylinders .
The cannon of photo 3 is really a 120/45 A1918. As soon as I can understand how to insert images I will put a drawing and photos.
Regards
Re: Italian coast gun
Hi Sturm, once again I have to apologize! your photo 3 is a 152/50 A 1918. I attach two photos taken years ago from the Italian naval site www.betasom.it/ forum (I have not found the exact topic anymore). Re: Italian coast gun
From the recoil system and sighting bar this is one of a number of US 5 inch 51 caliber weapons supplied to the Italians during WW I.

Also note the dual handwheels for elevation and train. Avery peculiarly American design standard on naval guns.

Re: Italian coast gun
Just found my notes. The US provided 10 of these 5 inch 51 guns in 1917 to Italy.
Re: Italian coast gun
Hi Sturm & Roland, also for me this photo is a mistery, the only sure thing is that this is a Regia Marina battery; but the gun seems bigger than 127 (or perhaps in the angle of the foto). Italy received also a few 152/50 U.S. guns , i put the fotos of 127 & 152 on pontoons (Venice lagoon artillery) , and a reference from an italian manual of 1919 (the photos are from the book "L'artiglieria Italiana nella grande guerra, of Curami & Massignani").
Thanks & regards
Shultz
P.s. , Roland do You know how many 6/50 were sent to Italy ?Thanks & regards
