That would be my guess too - something to attract the bees, so the guests wouldn't have to keep putting their Bierdeckels on top of their mugs and glasses to keep the bees out.

I assumed it was used against insects. Thanks for the answer!
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
They were trying to keep yellowjackets away.
Of course, brownshirts were always VERY welcome.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Hmm. I thought all work on the Berghof was finished in 1936. There's a lot of info out there about the extensive 1936 modifications. I did not know about the 1938 modification, which I now know was an extension to the east wing further out towards the Türken. Echoing Geoff's question, does anyone know of any plans of that extension?Geoff Walden wrote: ↑28 Apr 2020, 17:58I have never seen floor plans of the 1938 modifications - has anyone else here?
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Does anyone know of a period photo showing the control panel (and immediate surrounding space) of the Kehlsteinhaus elevator?
Failing that, a modern photo of the same areas may be okay...
Thanks all!

A few years ago I posted a link to one of the most comprehensive collections of photos of Obersalzberg/Berghof/Kehlsteinhaus.[with explanatory captions]
The original link is broken , but somehow the translated version still works. [translated from French]
I think it is worth posting again for those who missed it.

Hi Geoff,Geoff Walden wrote: ↑23 Apr 2020, 18:29Hi all,
This is not a guide to the Berghof area, per se, but we did visit the site and have a discussion while there.

The points that I used for my measurements on the ground were those that could be seen on the original house plans, and can be seen today. These include the faces of the various parts of the retaining wall, and the base of the entry pillar that remains (since this is in the right spot per measurements, I have accepted it as a "true point"). One can also make educated guesses based on the brick remains of the left front corner of the building, and the dividing wall between the garage and the Wintergarten (which is only occasionally visible). I drew various lines on copies of the plans, based on measurements of other lines given on the plans, and then measured at the site from these imaginary lines to various points seen today, and everything came out as predicted within a half-meter or so, so it seemed to me that this was a reasonable way to map out the site.
I have to say that is by far the best video I have seen regarding the Berghof. In fact, I myself have been thinking about making some short films of the area but I cannot see what could possibly be added to the subject after watching that. Answers so many questions, great archive footage, plenty of detail, absolutely superb!
Thanks again for sharing.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Thanks Max, I'm looking for a photo of the control panel from inside the actual elevator itself.
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
I have only seen pics of the clock and phone
Is that a button to the left of the green things?[ reflections?

Here is the best shot I have of the elevator controls, but it's not very good. You can see the buttons that the operator presses, but no details. Hopefully, someone will have a good photo of just the buttons.

Thanks everyone, I'll keep looking...
I wonder if the phone and clock are the originals. I can't imagine so.

Thanks for the link, Max. I was one of those who missed it before, as I haven't seen this blog. But I think the blogger had seen my webpage.Max wrote: ↑30 Apr 2020, 16:38A few years ago I posted a link to one of the most comprehensive collections of photos of Obersalzberg/Berghof/Kehlsteinhaus.[with explanatory captions]

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Last year the elevator operator told me and my friend Craig that the clock is original to 1938, but the phone is from the 1950s.
