Re: Führerbunker pictures thread
It's been 15 years since I saw and enjoyed "Downfall," so I'm glad to be reminded of the great amount of detail present in that wonderful film. That said, I am surprised to see these photos of the waiting room recreated for the Führerbunker; one would have expected that the paintings brought down there from Hitler's private apartment would have been displayed in a manner in which they could have been enjoyed by those sitting and waiting for their meeting with him, and not hung on the wall behind the seating arrangement! I do realize that actual period photos taken of the Führerbunker are rare, so my comment is not in any way to doubt the accuracy of this depiction.

I'm still very interested in the subject matter; however, I've been busy with other life interests in the past few years... it's good to see these set photos from that excellent movie.

Re: Führerbunker pictures thread
l have been working intensively on the bunker lately. The more I engage with it, the more questions emerge.
Most of the adjustments and drawings in my opinion have errors.
So I decided to recreate the study in my basement. When the time comes I will send some pictures.

I know, its a bit of a late reply but..sobel wrote: ↑02 May 2008, 09:41I believe that this is onesinatra1989 wrote:b14ck wrote:i've seen stills from this reconstruction and you can clearly see Otto Günsche taking part.Cor wrote:I'm also convinced that the Russians have a sort of reconstruction of the last days of Hitler and the Bunker with the persons involved. I have read somewhere that the Russians made such a movie in with the (german)prisoners they have taken in the summer of 1946.
Personally I think that must be the ultimate footage of the bunker
may i ask where you have seen these stills? i have only seen one from it.
thanks.

Re: Führerbunker pictures thread
75 Years ago - TODAY.
Adolf Hitler entered his underground study with his wife, Eva Braun. He had already said farewell to his servants and poisoned his dog. Gasoline for his cremation had been sent for. He had his pistol. Eva had cyanide.
He wore his Nazi uniform jacket and black trousers. She wore a blue dress trimmed in white. They closed the door and sat beside each other on a small couch. He was 56. She was 33. They had been married for a day and a half.
It was 3:15 p.m. on April 30, 1945. Seventy-five years ago, today.
No sound was heard from the study, according to historian Ian Kershaw. Aboveground, Berlin was being leveled by Russian artillery, as the epic catastrophe Hitler had launched six years earlier neared its bloody end.
Ten minutes passed. Then, Hitler’s valet, SS officer Heinz Linge, who had waited on him for a decade, smelled the odor of a discharged gun. He paused. “Everything in me resisted opening the door,” he wrote later.
As he entered, he recalled, the event he dreaded and civilization prayed for “had come to pass.”
Hitler and Braun were dead. Hitler had a bullet hole in his right temple. Braun was slumped to his left and reeked of the cyanide, which smelled like bitter almonds. “Her contorted face betrayed how she had died,” Linge recalled.

I know that some claim no sound was heard and maybe it wasn't. There was a lot of other noise around. But Frau Junge was widely reported saying that she and Goebbels' son Helmut heard a bang, to which he exclaimed "That was a bullseye!". I can't imagine she made that up. Maybe it was something else. I guess we'll never know for sure.N.C. Wyeth wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 05:1275 Years ago - TODAY.

Re: Führerbunker pictures thread
Well, with the heavy door to Hitler's death room it might've been hard to hear anything inside. As far as Traudl Junge and Helmut Goebbels hearing a gunshot, perhaps, being in a different area of the bunker, they may have been near an opening in a ventilation shaft that also had an opening in Hitler's study. In that case, the sound could have carried to them, but still be unheard directly outside the study if there was no vent linking the hallway directly to the same ventilation shaft.CraigM wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 05:26I know that some claim no sound was heard and maybe it wasn't. Obviously, without a blueprint of the ventilation system of the bunker it's impossible to verify if this is even possible.
Just a theory.
Re: Führerbunker pictures thread
Hello friends
I went again through all the posts of this thread to check if the photo I found in a 1948 french magazine was already posted.
I did not find it.
The photo is supposed to be taken in the Führer bunker ... if so what does it show?
Could this be the room below the air ventilation tower, at the time still under construction?
Above the door the panel with "gasschleuse" (airtight gas door). What intriges me is the difference in floor level and of course the "spacious" feeling of the room.
Entrance to the Vorbunker looking down the stairs from the above hall also could be (a more likely) possibility ...
But I suppose the Vorbunker would be not floated as shown in the photo because these rooms were a whole floor level higher then the FB.
The article contains further interesting photos like this one (confirmed FB) taken halfway the stairs from the emergency exit to the FB.
I made a study about the RSD-guards in the FB. Here some compositions...
Thanks
Peter
