Yes, those are the original elevator benches, so I was told. They were in storage and brought out and used for a film project a few years ago, and afterwards just left there in the waiting room (which I applaud).

Here is a rare photo of the KH under construction, taken by an SS guard in (I think) June 1938

Thanks for the great photo CPB. I'm interested in the structure visible on the right, which I believe is a cable lifting system to transport equipment and material up the mountain. Which brings up this old subject: what is this nearby concrete support for? [See photo below]

Answers I've heard include a flak gun placement or a support for the cable lifting system. I'm not sure it's a gun emplacement - being at such an angle the gun would be difficult to rotate to some positions beyond which it would take off on its own and quickly rotate! I'm more inclined to believe it was part of the construction but (a) it's not in line with the support poles shown in CPB's picture, and (b) it begs the question as to why it was left behind. Perhaps this has been asked and answered before in this forum (and apologies if so) but does anyone have any definitive info on what this is/was?

Great question – to my mind this was always an AA emplacement or searchlight, but I'd never considered other possibilities. If it was left over from the construction, I am sure they would have been obliged to remove it as it's quite an eyesore.

Looks more like an emergency exit.
Are those stairs/steps near to it?

Is this the one, Walking from Kehlsteinhouse up the Mountain on the right side?
First of all, this "Thing" is huge and I think it is not so easy to remove it from up there.
And it is not on the way from the People Walking around, it is rather hidden and you nearly dondt see it well.

I think Geoffe has a nice Explanation.

Geoffe, do you remember making that pic from me, balancing around on the Edge of this concrete Thing?
Was funny.

I don't know how they did it then, but now they just unload onto a hand pushcart at the tunnel entrance and push that cart down the tunnel and into the elevator.
Hi everyone,

in august 2019 i was up there with my bike at 6 PM and they just delivered stuff for the Kehlsteinhaus. They drove their van all the way back into the tunnel, backwards. You can see the headlights here in the picture.

Very interesting and one wonders how many times the Regime used to drive their cars up to the lift entrance...not often I would hazard as even at the 1944 wedding of Gretl Braun we see them all decamp at the entrance to the tunnel and walk down..

More impressive for the guests... And no option to go in with more cars ;-)

Thanks, Christian - I always wondered if they didn't really do it this way, if they had someone who could back in there straight. :milwink:
I don't know if Hitler was driven in like that, or if he walked down the tunnel with his guests to impress them, but I'll bet when they came back down the elevator, they found at least one Mercedes waiting for them outside the domed hall, backed down the tunnel (not running of course - exhaust fumes would build up in there, even with the ventilation system running, I'd imagine).

Thanks everyone, I'll keep looking...

I wonder if the phone and clock are the originals. I can't imagine so.
Last year the elevator operator told me and my friend Craig that the clock is original to 1938, but the phone is from the 1950s.
When I was there couple of years back, the operator told us the clock is from a U-boat.

Is the Turken going to be reopend again after this Corona stuff? Or is it closed forever till it finds a new buyer, as it seems to be for sale.

No, Rick, I have no info from Monika.

Sad news - www.kehlsteinhaus.de reports that the Kehlsteinhaus/Eagles Nest will remain closed for the rest of 2020. My hopes and best wishes go out to all the employees.
