Translation Requests
Re: Translation Requests
Hello gentlemen,
I hope You can help me,
Down below I enclose one accidental finding - pdf file. File with picture of some young IJN sailor.
I was able to translate his name - Kitahara, his first name - in my version is, probably wrong - Hyakutsugiro...? I would like to ask You if sowhere in the text there is an information about his rank, his unit, and where was he stationed? By the way - it is also interesting what happened to him, on the date given next to his picture- June 1st, 1943?
Thank You very much,
Regards,
Marek

Re: Translation Requests
Hello marek,
The print is very thin and difficult to read, but in the visible range:
(1) They lived in Mukden, Manchuria.
(2) On April 10, 1943, the following telegram of the convocation came.
- ジュウインショウシュウショウメイ■■■■二九ヒ ヨコスカカイヘイタン
- Convocation letter ??? 29th Yokosuka Naval Barracks
I guess the telegram had ordered him to report to 横須賀海兵団 Yokosuka Naval Barracks on April 29th. So he was a sailor or an NCO.
(3) The letter from him to his wife was censored military mail, and the sender was 横須賀郵便局気付 aware of Yokosuka Post Office ウ八六 ウ九一 U86 U91
I can’t identify Unit Code and / or Location Code U86 U91, but stulev may can.

His Kanji was 北原百次郎 Kitahara Hyakujiro
This is his wife’s recollection,

The caption also said “at Yokosuka”. I guess it was taken in memory of Yokosuka Naval Barracks join.

Re: Translation Requests
U86 is a location code for Wotje Atoll in the Marshall Islands and U91 is the Unit code for the 64th Guard Force
Re: Translation Requests
Thanks stulev, for the info.
64th Guard Force was established on 1 April 1943. So 北原百次郎 was mobilized for it.

Re: Translation Requests
Can someone translate the military address on these two cards from Taiwan - They both appear to be censored so they would have a military connection - a base or a factory making items for the military
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Translation Requests
I’m from Taiwan, and I’m glad to see old postcards from Taiwan.
According to the question you asked, this card was sent from 板橋郵便局 (Itabashi Post Office) and its current location: (25.0090205, 121.4582925)
The unit "鷺" ( Sagi ) was the 110th Division (Eagle Division (鷺兵団, Sagi Heidan)) The nucleus for the formation was the 10th division headquarters, stationed in northeastern China for a long time.
As for the number "3951", I think the writer made a mistake. It should be "3915".
"Unit 3915" are the Engineer unit of the 110th Division.
Here are the Components of the 110th Division (with unit number):
110. Infantry regiment (3911)
139. Infantry regiment (3908)
163. Infantry regiment (3912)
110. Engineer company (3915)
110. Transport company (3917)
110. Signals company (3916)
110. Field hospital (3919)
110. Veterinary department (3920)
