The first air victory of World War 2 happened on the 1st of September 1939, during the German invasion of Poland. What were the unusual circumstances of this victory?

Polish pilot Wladyslaw Gnys shot against two bombers Do 17, after do this he returns to the base, ignoring the fate of the bombers
Really the two German bombers collided one each other after his attack, and fell to the ground.
And in this way, he scored the first two victories over Luftwaffe in WWII, without knowing it

von thoma,

I should have clarified - the very first victory, which was claimed by a Luftwaffe pilot. What were the circumstances regarding this victory?

Ouch !

Captain Medwecki was shoot down by Ju 87 during take off, under common attack of Junkers and Dorniers
His PZL P.11 exploded in the air.

The aforementioned Lt. Gnys was Medwecki's wingman

von thoma,
Correct - the first air victory was scored by a dive bomber, and not a fighter.

Your turn to ask a question.

If the “middle” one is the one looking up, it might be Jürgen Stroop.

Correct for Waleed

It's Jurgen Stroop during his captivity

Hi guys I’m wondering if you can help me!

I’ve come by a book called the voice of Poland 1945 and it seems to be a collection of journals from 1945 about Poland during ww2, any information anyone has on this particular book would be amazing, after doing my own research online it appears to be extremely rare and I would very much like to find the right home for it!

All the best

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and am Polish with an interest in WW2 tanks.

Can I ask a quiz question? If so, what is the nickname of the famous 303 RAF squadron?
