They can sign a civil contract equal under the law to marriage laws.

What about children and their rights? Maybe they don't want to be adopted under such unusual circumstances.
Maybe they don't understand what it entails for their lives? Children aren't toys to satisfy someone's dreams.
And anyway, there are lots of things we can't have.

But the point is the Poles made the decision democratically. The people have spoken the matter is finished.

Much as I would love to wade into a debate on LGBT 'rights' and rights and the role of the Catholic Church (or any other church) in modern-day politics, I fail to see what any of this has to do with the subject in hand (even if we let pass that the subject itself falls way outside the parameters of this theme).

Hi gebhk,

Sorry. My fault.

I suggested that the current poilitical/geographic division might be: "related to relative religiosity?"

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi Sid

I agree that relative religiosity may be a factor (albeit one of very many) but this is quite different to an active role in government of the Church. The Catholic Church is a pressure group like any other in Poland - this is unlike the UK, for example, where the House of Lords has reserved seats for 26 Lords Spiritual who are bishops supplied by the established church.

Poland might be good when it comes to freedom of speech but it is much worse than the US is in regards to LGBT rights. :(
LGBT people enjoy the same rights as everybody else in Poland.
Like walking the street claiming they are LGBT?

Not equal if they can't adopt children.

So, what about giving stable straight couples preference in regards to adoption but allowing stable LGBT couples to adopt any additional children that stable straight couples don't want to adopt?

For now. The Poles can always reconsider their decision. :)

You don't understand.
We aren't rural, dim, unworldly.
In the nineties, we regularly vote for the former commies and their fellow travelers the liberals; we were much more "progressive" then.

We've become like that because we saw the world, we - the millions of Poles who were forced to work abroad, among condescending strangers.
We saw the terrorist attacks, crime, violence (my family living in the center of London was violently attacked in a year, all of them), the grooming gangs, the Muslim, the African emigrants, and their tribalism.
We saw the world from the trenches, working at low paying jobs in Britain or Belgium - and we didn't like what we saw.
What do you have to offer - the murders of Chicago, the violence of New York, the homeless people of California?
What we have here works and it seems to get better with time; what you have there don't, and it's getting worse.
Do you know all the most violent cities in the US are ruled by progressive folks and have been for decades?

I was simply advocating a more progressive policy on LGBT rights; I think that Poland is doing fine in regards to a lot of these other things.

And again I have to ask what has any of this to do with the subject in hand?

The problem is Poland isn't alone, the majority of countries on this planet are with Poland in this.
It's mostly allowed in the EU, the US, Canada, and Greenland. Even there, it was basically achieved by lawyer tricks and massive media campaigns.

Such (fancy) rights for a tiny minority are against basic tenants of all three leading religions on this planet.
You can't do that without destroying them and the associated cultures.

The results shown here are contrary to the North American experience where academic performance in schools with students from low income homes is substantially inferior to that of schools with students from higher income homes.
Here is a study on why:

Conservatism vs liberalism is not a factor.
