Best War Movie Ever

Not a movie but "Band of Brothers", hands down. By far my favorite and best WWII show. The way it follows a company from training till the end of the war, a complete story done in a right way.

Band of Brothers is in a class apart. A mini-series made about living veterans, by expert film makers. The actors had a dossier on a living person and could not invent details.

Tried to watch a PBS series about E German when the Soviet occupation began ....it was difficult. Cant remember the title?

I read the T.E. Lawrence book "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" ("Die sieben Säulen der Weisheit") a few times, not aware, how the book ended
in the bookshelves of the family.

First time in the german cinema, as a very young person, in the late 1960s, and dozens of times on TV and video.
Impressive, touching, it took me many years to even begin to understand this film at all...

First half was hysterically irreverent and the second half tragically expected.

Was the resistance movement in Germany active through the war ? I read upwards of 4 million German's spent the war years imprisoned.

Ten years old in 1945 Nazi Germany would be much different in my opinion compared to a ten year old today. The kid was very modern.
I understand it was a parody for modern audiences and still it was off in this respect. Hope and the Glory recounts a 10year child and it rings quite true. Of course, that was intended as a comedy and not seen as a parody.

The director did the What we do in the Shadows which was quite clever in some parts. This one not so for me. Less clever, and too simplistic and heavy handed.

I liked "Michael Collins" starring Mr. Liam Neeson from the year 1996, and
"The Wind That Shakes the Barley" from the year 2006.

This is surprising. The messages of both movies are outright contradictory. While Michael Collins celebrates the Free Staters as the voice of reason, they are no more than a bunch of capitalist reactionaries to Ken Loach.

neither me, my american father was from irish origin , family went to the USA decades ago, for a more better life.

And I know, the very little I am aware from my father, the people were under pressure, starving, close to death.

At our only encounter, the father talked about visiting Ireland only once again, for coming home to his homeland.
Bob died in Phoenix/Arinzona, as a 150% "American Patriot".
At the only encounter, Bob talked about "Ireland", to sorry, he did never visit his so called "homeland" at all.

You know, life is a long turning circle.
