Is it possible to request high resolution scans for certain pages ? Some of the maps are not quite of the resolution to make out some of the unit text.

You know that the maps can be opened in a fullscreen view?

Even with fullscreen, the map size tends to be too small for zooming in enough to read all the unit notations. Most maps are <2 MB in size.

That is surprising because the available Soviet maps at Pamyat-Naroda can run up to 300 - 600 Mb.

Our archival services are very brief when updates. Often they even don't make notice about new documents uploaded. silent about their specifications.

Hi,

As far as I can tell, nothing has changed in months.

It looks like some files have been added again. Don't know which exactly, but some that were shown as 'being scanned' are now available.

Is there no way to track what has been added ? I am assuming that new files are added at the end of the previous files, for each section.

thanks,

Comparing to my local copy, I don't see anything new really (although this made me realize I had occasional holes in my version, but fewer than 50 pages).

For example, the 12468 series is still not there, although files have been on the server for more than 2 years, but hidden.

I can confirm there are several new items in: https://wwii.germandocsinrussia.org/de/ ... esgruppe-d

Akte 19 is the KTB of H.Gr. B from 15 Jan to 5 Jun 1944. This is very similar to the portion of NARA T84, R182 for that date range. However, they are not identical.
A) GermanDocsinRussia copy is MUCH, MUCH clearer, higher resolution and easier to read. R281 and the adjacent R182 microfilms have poor clarity.
B) The two are not photocopies of each other. Portions are word-for-word matches although they are not always at same positions on a page. But R182 has some extra documents.

C) Findbuch 12465 as of this evening 7 Oct 2020 has numerous new documents published up through Akte 69, and placeholders up to 110. It was only at around 45 published as of this morning so this file is actively being expanded. Most of what I sampled from around Akte 25-45 is O.B. West theater LageKarten from 1941.

Regarding germandocsinrussia; Can anyone please explain how to auto download pages from a single Akte? I have tried a few different 'download managers' extentions but they only seem to download the thumbnails instead of the full size image. I don't know whether I'm doing something wrong or not, because the instructions for these extensions are imprecise, have confusing terminology and don't have examples of how to use them in various situations like this one.
I know about rutrackertorrents but the fond 500 are not very well seeded anymore, which is sad and surprising. But the opis/findbuch I want, 12482 (Regimental KTB) have not been uploaded as pdfs to rutracker yet, and may never.
I would appreciate any suggestions!
PS I sometimes worry the germandocs site will be closed down without warning, and without having been properly downloaded and reorganized for future researchers.

@Sean, I use FDM for batch downloads. This only works well if the pages are numbered consecutively.
First, to get to a saveable image, press the print button on a page (image) you want to save. That should take you to a new page with just the document. If you cancel the printing, you can save that page (image). This is the manual way.
Now if you look at the URL of that 'printing' page, there's a number which identifies the page. If you check the number of the first and last page in a folder, you know the range of the numbers and batch downloaders can do their thing.

@tzt4. Do you happen to know which NARA rolls (or other sources) hold the many files Akte 19 refers to? Akte 19 itself is a great document, but it would be so much more interesting with the Anlagen. ;-)

ELAR (owner of archival sites) is famouis for protection from automatic downloading. So, it can happen none among ordinary download managers can work, because of mechanism of link generation.
They like to use dynamic links + getting every image by GET or POST methods. Plus some additional protection can be presented. I didn't study just this site, but I had enough experience with their puzzles on another one.
