Axis volunteers from the Anglophone world
Axis volunteers from the Anglophone world
I am curious how many instances there were were of people from Anglophone nations volunteering for the Axis armed forces, considering that virtually all Anglophone countries (with the exception of Ireland) were in the Allied camp. For the moment let us ignore expats of Axis countries (like Italians or Germans moving back from the USA), and try to focus on people without prior Axis citizenship.
Aside from the British Free Corps, I did find this example of an American pilot who defected to the Germans and became an Untersturmführer in the SS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_James_Monti

Here is an example of an Irish volunteer in the Waffen SS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Brady_(SS)

Not sure if anyone else is interested in this thread, but I found an unsourced mention of an Irishman, Patrick O'Neill, serving as a doctor with the SS-Bewahrungsverbande 500, maybe someone can confirm it or deny it.

Ah yes, I saw that one too. A pity they didn't provide a specific source for that bit...Prosper Vandenbroucke wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 15:45Hi Narikis,

I also found an (also unsourced) mention of an American from Louisiana named Peter Delaney who was claimed to have served in both the SS-Standarte Kurt Eggers and the Légion des Volontaires Français.

Re: Axis volunteers from the Anglophone world
Hi Narikis,
Peter Delaney changed his name into Pierre de la Nay du Vair due to his French ancestry and there were a few other American volunteers
