Thanks. The quite heavy clothing also would indicate January or February, I should think. That's very helpful.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Here's another mystery gun from the same source (well anyway not a LG40).

Russian 7.62cm Zis-3 gun? A number of these were sent over with the 5 Jan convoy. So this could have been a demonstration of new artillery items to high-level officers?

It could be the FSV-22, not 100% certain, but 99% certain it's one of the two.

That is definitely the 76.2mm F-22 divisional gun, the Germans called it the the Pak 36(r) or the Feldkanone 296(r).

Muzzle brake? Did one have one, and the other not.

(I was addressing JBond, but Alan's post just got their first, I'm adding this to avoid confusion).

Alan is right, at least from what I can see. The F-22 had no recuperator above the barrel, while the Zis-3 did. The gun in the picture doesn't have one.

I understand from shipping documents & monthly returns figures, that the guns were 10cm LG 2 (Not sure of full & correct designation) & that they were in North Africa.
Okay, I have found a document in the DAK WD which is from 9 Jan 42 and states that 4 LG2 (correct LG42) were in North Africa with the artillery battery.

Thanks for this. Do you have the archive signature? Is that from the documents held by Russian archives?

The report comes from the NARA microfilm roll T-313 R-437 (Panzer Army Africa), as I stated in my message:
