We have a thread like this for the SS and Polizei, so now we have one for the NSDAP and other leading Party affiliates.

In this first post, can anyone identify the SA-Oberführer with Wolf-Heinrich Graf von Helldorff?

My suggestion is Walther Freiherr von Lindenfels, later SA-Brigadeführer.

There is some resemblance, but Freiherr von Lindenfels was not promoted SA-Oberführer until 09.11.1934 and this image is from the Vossische Zeitung, issue of 6. November 1932.

The only other man named Walter Schmidt who held high SA rank is SA-Gruppenführer born in 1903... at least as far as I know. This is, of course, a different one, and SA-Oberf. must be his highest rank. I know there was a Major a. D. of that name associated with Graf Helldorff prior to the Machtergreifung. Do you have more information on him?

Sorry for the delay with answer - little summer vacation...
Of course this is a different "Schmidt", I have seen the same photo with the caption for a long time. I only remember that the photo location was Potsdam.

Might this be von Helldorff with Walter Schmidt again? September 1932.
