Why does the USA seem to have no deployable Presidential Guard?
Re: Why does the USA seem to have no deployable Presidential Guard?
to bring it back to WW2, FDR had a few marines posted outside the White house after Dec 7th, and IRC a couple were posted around the capital building and other important DC buildings. While this may seem a rather weak defense, you must remember that FDR only had to worry about Japanese/German spies, saboteurs, and Assassins which doesn't even compare to what Congress faced in 2021. So you can see why we needed 25,000 NG compared to a few marines.

Hi rcocean,
Aren't Canadians sometimes described as "wet-backs in buffalo robes"?
If one guy in a buffalo robe can pin down 25,000 National Guards, the USA must be running really scared of the looming threat from north of the 49th parallel!
Cheers,
Sid.

Nah, its politics. When anyone realizes a dozen average Marines can stand in for 25,000 NG its over for the NG system & a large chunk of the DoD.

This is an obviously false old Yankee wives' tale. The bison is a protected species in Canada, so we can't get buffalo robes. No, we are in fact known as "wet-backs in Hudson Bay blankets". Get it straight, okay? (Sorry, that should be "Get it straight, eh?".)Sid Guttridge wrote: ↑22 Apr 2021, 22:22Aren't Canadians sometimes described as "wet-backs in buffalo robes"?
Of course, we sometimes describe some Americans this way in news headlines: "Wet-backs from Buffalo rob Hudson Bay store".
