Hello,

Research takes persistence
I wrote:
Maybe someone could identify SS-Ustuf. Krause who is on a Pow report (posted by Steve) as Platoon leader in 2./DF?
I found his name on another document
.

I've found only one name that matches "Krause":

Krausse, Helmut SS-Ustuf. DoB 10.09.23 SS.Nr. 403574
Invasionfront: EK II – 09.11.44 7./Pz.GR.4

Source John Moore Führerliste

There are many errors in the german names' transcription in POW's interrogation reports whether British, US or French

Hello,
I wrote :
The source for Ustuf Josef Froni is: Commission d'enquête des crimes de guerre (War Crimes Commission of Inquiry) and John Moore Führerliste
The II./Pz.GR.4. led by Herbert Schulze lacked officers and had to complete his training. He arrived on the Normandy front only on 17.07.1944
On 15.03.1944 II./DF has only 4 officers, 3 in Stab and 1 in 5./DF
Source: Stärke D.F T354 R128

But on 21.06.1944 II./DF has 21 officers, Stab : 8 , 5./DF : 4 , 6./DF : 3 , 7./DF : 3, 8./DF : 3
Source: Monatliche Stärkemeldung 21.06.1944 T354 R128

Despite my research, I couldn't find any officer's name outside of Froni. for the 8./DF, although they were 3.

Maybe another member could help and make a contribution.

Hello,

Heder, Wilhelm Hstuf. 27. 7.13 SS Nr 68 928 Chef, 12. / Pz.GR.4 † 5. 9.44 b.Dinant

Wilhelm Heder's personal file only contains the Stammkarte.
Ustuf. 20/04/1937
Ostuf. 09/11/1938
Hstuf. 20/04/1940

Führer in Führerschule Bad Tölz 20.04.1937-01.05.1937
Polizei from 01.05.1937 (O.P / P.V Saarbrücken) to 02.04.1944
SS-Pz.Gr.AuE Btl.2: 02.04.1944 and transferred to the Das Reich on 15.04.1944.

Before his arrival Otto Stix was acting as head of 12./Pz.GR.4

It's surprising to see Heder taking the head of a heavy company equipped with infantry guns when he has a priori no experience or training for this function.

Does anyone have information about his time in Germania regiment and SSVT from 05.02.1935 to 20.04.1937 and in the police ?

Patrick

Hello Patrick

Wilhelm Heder attended the Tölz 36 course from 01.04.36 to 31.01.37. After the platoon's leaders course in Dachau he was promoted to Ustuf. on 20.04.37 and, as most of his promotion, assigned to the Ordnungspolizei with effect 01.05.37.

When promoted to Hauptmann d.Sch.P. on 20.04.40 he was attached to the Polizei Verwaltung Saarbrucken:

Although many officers promoted at the same time were later incorporated into the Waffen-SS after having served in the SS-Polizei-Division (Albrecht, im Masche, Ollrog, Pitscheider, Altrogge, Neuss, Traupe, Dietrich, Rickert, Hohmann, Albers or Helmut Müller), I have not been able to establish if Heder also served in the Division or not.

Hello Ignacio,

Thank you for these details on the pre-war service of Wilhelm Heder.

Which questions me, even if we take into account the lack of officers at that time and we consider that he could rely on very experienced men like the Ustuf Otto Stix or Hscha Adolf Peichl, it's to give the command of a heavy company to an officer who seems to have no experience.
Of course, there are other officers transferred from the police to the Waffen-SS but not necessarily at the head of a combat company.
For example, Hstuf Rudolf Haefcke came from the police but was transfered to the Polizei Division and next he led several companies within the Das Reich. Later being assigned to lead the 15./DF during the division rebuilding in spring 1944.

Hello,

According to an OKH order of 13.12.1943,Wilhelm Heder was part of a 24 Feldgendarmerie officers list transferred to the Waffen-SS
List kindly provided by forum member RolandP

A list of June 24, 1944 of police members of DF regiment gives the following officers names:
Heinz Barth, Rudolf Haefcke, Wilhelm Heder Friedrich Lange, Wolfram Kluge, Heinrich Schaaf.
Source Nara T354

Hstuf Erich Otto Kahn was Hauptwachtmeister in the Gendarmerie before being assigned to the Feldgendarmerie of the SS-VT division on October 23, 1939. He was Zugführer and then Chef Feldgendarmerie Kie until his transfer as Chef 3./DF on March 1944.
So it was his first assignment at the head of a combat unit...

Hello,

Thanks Albert for this document concerning Robert Kohs.

Kohs was promoted to Ostuf on June 21,1944.
He therefore led the 9./DF since March 1944 with only the rank of Ustuf.
It should be noted that since June 12, 1943 he led the Stab Kie of the SS.F.H.A.
He would have been temporarily an orderly officer of Hans Jüttner.

Maybe there is a photo where he is with Jüttner ???
