Wolf Dietrich Heike's book is also good, it's available in English and while he was a Wehrmacht officer iirc transferred to the division he liked the Ukrainians and felt the staff officers to be, as the Ukrainians also thought, incompetent and with a disdain for Slavic soldiers. The division was not particularly treated well.

I also want to mention that I was under the impression that the Division, at least initially before Brody, was primarily made up of volunteers from Galicia, presumably not men already serving as auxiliary police. I always had the impression that auxiliary police units were generally made of Red Army PoWs, if not, in certain cases, led by them. I read this in one of Dr. Kubiovych's articles on the subject after Brody is when I would presume others made it into the division if they did.

Also, how many soldiers, of those surrendered to the Poles under the auspices of the Galicia Division, in the UNA, were from other units? I always had the impression that despite being the primary Ukrainian unit, most Ukrainians in the Heer were never subordinate to the UNA nor were they lucky enough to get scooped up by the Poles and Brits after WWII. Also worth mention is that it was through the personal intervention of Gen Wladyslaw Anders of the Polish Army that the UNA got saved from the GULAG, since they were mostly former Polish citizens, and Gen Shandruk had fought in the Polish Army in '39.

Please re-read this whole forum or search under Ukrainian Volunteers. You are quite wrong in your assesment. As a very rough estimate:

160,000 in Ostlegions/YBB
70,000 in Schutzmanshaften
35,000 in Galician division
5,000 or more in other Waffen Ss disivison
10,000 as Flakhepers
unindetified number (probably around 1000) in Luftwaffe
unindentified number (probably no more then 300-500) in Kriegsmarine
unindentified number (probably around 5000) in all the othe paramilitary formations like Org. Todt, NSKK, Baudienst ect.

Your fault. Ukrainians served in IV. SS-Pz. Korps are non-commissioned officers/cadets of 14. Galizische SS-Freiwilligen-Division from the SS-Junkerschule Braunschweig. Please look at the best author in subject Roman Ponomarenko "Українські юнкершафти: підготовка українського офіцерського корпусу у військових СС". This same info, but less than Ponomarenko - you can find in M. Logusz monography "Galicia Division".

Do you have any info - personal card of SSO - Ukrainians lightning in SS-Sdr.Rgt. Dirlewanger - f.e Waffen-Hauptscharführer der SS Ivan Melniczenko - comm. of Ukrainische Zug in this mentioned unit or another commanders and soldiers there?

Thanks for answer, Albert - another names Ukrainians (or Russians or Latvian) in SS-Sdr.Btl. Dirlewanger (FP 00512)? But also more information about Schema.Btl. 118 (more than in "Ubiytsy Khatynia"' - there are great materials from TsA KGB RB).
I am interesting in Melnytschuk, (only) when he fight as Dirlewanger's soldier. The book Kovtun & Zhukov "Okhotniki za partizami" helped a lot. They are historical giants!

Is there any breakdown by region of origin?

I was wondering if there is any continuity between the Sic Guard in then Czecho-Slovak Ruthenia in 1938-39 and the later 14th W-SS Division?
