Does anyone recognize the make and model of the car?
Opel Olympia Cabriolet (1950–1953).
Outside length: 4050 mm / 159.4 in.

Thanks for that ramms
This Opel had a turning circle of 11m compared with 14m for the Grosser.
Lengths -Opel 4.05m / Grosser 5.6m

See again my analysis of the problem

Those are some very interesting May 1951 photos of the ruins that ramms has posted. Excellent.

It just may be can also add to some Berghof discussion though insufficiently familiar with all the rooms. It depends on if this room now finally identified in character can be associated with it. I know some rooms apparently remain a slight mystery but the windows here are very obvious. Some might want to take a look.

Hi everyone
I was doing some google earth looking today (still cant believe they have it so rarely in Germany ) but was tracing the road up from Berchtesgaden to the old Berghof. as you go up the road, when you turn left off the main rd to go past the old Guardhouse foundation, there is a stone wall there. it looks somewhat like Hitlers driveway walls
i am curious if any of these walls are from that time?
also
is the road from town the exact same as it was then in terms of the route?
thanks so much
The road follows the same route as then, but it has been widened in several places. The road from the turnoff at the gate house ruins, going past the Berghof site and the Hotel zum Türken, has probably not been widened (except the period widening to allow the Mercedes to turn into the Berghof driveway), so that shows how narrow much of the road originally was.

Yes, these stone walls are from the period. In many photos (such as the scenes of the gate house (Torhaus Berghof), you can still match up the stones seen today. There has been some repair over the years, of course. These stone walls were part of "Bormann's infrastructure" in the Obersalzberg area, and can still be seen in many places on the OSB and around Berchtesgaden, and as far away as Ramsau.

Wow, coem back after the weekend and thsi forum does NOT dissapoint!

great pictures posted and Geoff thanks for clarifying! So there must be quite a bit of small walls, or parts and places still there from the time period.

seeing those pics i have to wonder how many families came up there and took pics, or just people visiting that are still out there after the war and before it was blown up. great stuff!

I was also going to say, the aerial view of the Berghof before the large transition is interesting to me, you see a wall or border running down from the Hotel Zum Turken, so that must have been the original boundary. however when the Berghof expanded they obviously had taken over all that property so the house itself ran thru the old Turken Front yard

i was wondering, in that same aerial pic, there are what look like 3 posts with multiple lights on them? I wouldn't think they were lights though, and they dont look like flags, they look like they have a bunch of small square objects on them,., does any one know what those are? coming up the main road

These could be telephone lines with ceramic insulators, but there are only three then stop.
Maybe they are buried until the first pole on the left and continue above ground to the right.

Looks like a large car - seems to be lots of space.

This is where the large swastika banner was flown, but what is this?

I concur.

I saw that and had the same question. "S"? How bizarre! Perhaps not the letter "S" as such but just a shape that happens to look the same as the letter?

I think that there could be two more telephone line poles, circled in the pic. But you'd think that all cables would lead to the switchboard, which was in the Türken.

I didn't notice that S either.
Is it possible that what we're seeing was a mark applied later to this print, to obscure the swastika on the flag? That practice was actually pretty common on Haus Wachenfeld and Berghof post cards post-war.

Book on sale from an american militaria dealer:

Link: https://www.tothehiltmilitaria.com/der- ... ld-585-00/

Sold for "only" 600,- american dollars, hard to believe the selling price achieved for this folder, the collectors are slowly going completely crazy!

One can no longer speak of a good investment at such prices, such a thing is complete nonsense! 8O

$ 600 !? See what you mean. Those color postcards are not only extremely common actually, they are very widely published, and often in good quality.

Max,

This picture is fairly common if not mistaken, but makes a nice comparison to re-visit given your view of the complex pre-1937.
