In any event it doesn't matter who said it. If history channel showed Stukas bombing Ford Island it has to be true
The DAK Patton tanks convinced me of the truth.

It is a fact that all details and timings of the raid on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese were communicated "BY OFFICER HAND ONLY." The closest any of the Allies got was the details Duko Popov of MI6 gave to J Edgar Hoover. Now did Hoover hold on to this information? Did Hoover inform the President and Roosevelt ignore it to permit U.S. entry in WW2?

Hello All ;

Mr. OpanaPointer stated :
Popov was a clown and a liar.

Dusan Popov was the scion of a VERY wealthy family, lived the life of a dissolute playboy,
and decided, for reasons of his own, to pit himself against the Third Reich. He penetrated
the Abwehr, worked for MI6, and provided much valuble intelligence to both the British,
who often took advantage of it, and to the United States, which either through incompetence
or by deliberate inaction, chose to ignore his warnings.

It is greatly regretable that when he came to the United States, he had to deal with the FBI
and Gay Edgar Hoover. ( Hoover, who liked young boys, was apparently offended by Popov's
preference for attractive women. ) For this reason, it is believed by some that Hoover
' sat on ' Popov's intelligence, and did not pass it on to his superiors. ( This was not the
first time Hoover did this, and it would not be the last )

To call Popov, who repeatedly risked his own life, and had several close friends killed, at
the hands of the Nazis a " Clown and a Liar " ignores the risks he accepted and the losses
he endured.

" What the Hell do you think Spies are ? Moral Philosophers measuring everything
they do against the Word of God or Karl Marx ? They're not ! They're just a bunch of seedy,
squalid bastards like Me ! Little men, drunkards, queers, hen-pecked husbands, civil servants
playing Cowboys and Indians to brighten their rotten little lives ! Do you think they sit like
Monks in a Cell, balancing Right versus Wrong ?

from the film - ' The Spy Who Came In From the Cold '

It must be noted that, after Popov's death, MI-6 declassified numerous documents, many of
which verified the account he gave in his book, ' Spy -CounterSpy ' . Was Popov the inspiration
for Ian Fleming's James Bond, or was that Kim Philby.....

A great many brave, nameless people gave the best years of their lives, and in far too many
cases, sacrificed their lives for the cause of defeating Hitler, fighting behind the lines, gathering
intelligence, planting false information, and sowing the seeds that would lead to the downfall
of the Third Reich. For a person to call ANY of them ' A Clown and a Liar ' nearly eighty years
later is almost as sad as it is despicable.

Respectfully :

Paul R. Ward
