It's not Joseph Kraus or Dragutin Prica.

Some more info about the unknown Konteradmiral:

Born 18.05.1867
Died 12.11.1935

From 20.06. until 31.10.1918 Hafenadmiral im Golf von Cattaro

No guesses? Here's a clue: his final rank was Generaloberst.

Great Grandpa's registration card says he was born in Borond, Hungary, in 1880. Trying to find on a map, but I believe it might now be *gone* and now a part of Romania, since the aftermath-deals of the end of WWI. Any idea what city/burg in Romania (or Hungary) is now called the place of his birth?

Thanks. Jeromos Istvan Beko

:welcome:

Looks like you are in the wrong section of the Forum. It is a quiz thread.
Anyway, to answer your question, it could be Börönd in Hungary:

sorry, btw
I'm not sure he got promoted to GM. All I found was:
1917: Artillery general of Section III of Army Group GO von Boroević as colonel with major general fees
(Artilleriegeneral des Abschnittes III der Heeresgruppe GO von Boroević als Oberst mit Generalmajor-Gebühren (gewährt bis zur Enthebung vom Kommando oder bis zum ersten Demobilisierungstag))

1921: after retirement with an Oberst pension and a complaint against it at the Administrative Court, the major general pension is awarded.

curious, isn't it?

regards,
paulus

Janecka was promoted to Generalmajor:

18.05.1921 Generalmajor d.R. (Titel u. Charakter)

Source:
VBl. 30/1921 v. 08.06.1921, Entschl. v. 18.05.1921, der Bundespräs. hat den Titel verliehen d.R.; Nr. 228, Höhere Charakterisierungen. S. 291

It´s quite interesting that he got "Titel UND Charakter" which was a rare issue. Most of them just received just "Titel".
