Hi,
As Adam Grünewald did not take over his 1. Sturm in Lichtenburg earlier than 12 Nov. 1934, Entsberger cannot be on the photo as he was expelled from the SS per 26 Oct.1934.
Already In 2015, in Volume I "Die SS-Totenkopfverbände 1933-1937" of his study about the Totenkopfverbände 1933-1939, Marten van Dijken managed to identify the posing individuals for the first time: Grünewald (F. 1. Sturm), Weichseldorfer (Verw.F.), Schliep (Lagerarzt), Bernh. Schmidt (Lagerkommandant), Launer (F. 2. Sturm), Rödl (F. SS-Wachtruppe Lichtenburg), Zill (Zugf. 2. Sturm)

Bogo
Hi, bogo, thank you for the addition about Schliep (corrected), but I can't find an SS-officer with that name anywhere ...

Andrey.

Hello,

I'm looking for help in identifying the officers on the attached crop from a photograph. Based on the soldier in the background, I would guess that this is somewhere in the Balkans, probably in the territory of the former Independent State of Croatia.

Best regards
Blanusa

Hello, Blanusa

You're right, it is Croatia (Bosnia), autumn 1942. The officer on the left is wearing an ethnic German cap and he looks very much like Volksgruppenführer Branimir Altgayer (he also had a cleft chin, large nose and ears etc.). However, I've never seen him wearing this type of uniform, so I hesitate to claim it's him. But the chances are high and it would make sense as well (Lorenz, who was a VoMi chief, was visiting Croatian ethnic Germans at the time and Altgayer was their leader, and Lorenz's subordinate).

Two more shots of the same person taken on the same occasion:

The Standartenführer on the right in your picture looks somewhat familiar, but no name comes to my mind at the moment.

Btw, congratulations on purchasing the photo ;)

Cheers,
Ivan

Hello Ivan,

Thank you for the additional information and for the praise on the purchase! The reason I bought it is because I thought it was Konstantin Kammerhofer. :) I know it is a long shot, but could the Standartenführer be Hermann Fegelein?

No, not Fegelein...

Here's another shot of the same man (not too clear unfortunately)

Thank you for the reply! With the big nose in profile, he still kind of looks like Fegelein to me :)

Ok, sure thing Michal, just calm down. I was not questioning, just making a small joke, as can maybe be guessed by the smiley. Thank you for your input though.
