Guys, are you sure we are looking at the same person? Did he wear glasses later?

Still, I think it's him, Michal.
For me, there are more similarities than differences...

Hello,

any idea who these two LSSAH men are?

They appear in the Walter Frentz Collection under the title 'Berghof am Obersalzberg, Hitlers Dienstpersonal auf der Terrasse, Sommer 1940'.

Regards,

E.L

The man on the left is Hitler's valet Will Arndt that was killed in the famous aircraft crash of April 1945 along with the famous "Hitler Diaries" etc.

The officer on the left is wearing an ethnic German cap and he looks very much like Volksgruppenführer Branimir Altgayer (he also had a cleft chin, large nose and ears etc.). However, I've never seen him wearing this type of uniform, so I hesitate to claim it's him. But the chances are high and it would make sense as well (Lorenz, who was a VoMi chief, was visiting Croatian ethnic Germans at the time and Altgayer was their leader, and Lorenz's subordinate).

Hello again, Blanusa

Just to confirm that it is indeed Altgayer. He wears an ES (Einsatzstaffel) uniform with staff officer epaulettes, i.e. with a rank higher than captain (which was his rank in the old Yugoslav Army and in the SS, at the time), and he wrote in his biography that he did also wear an ES uniform (when visiting ES men) and that he held the rank of an ES reserve colonel. (Note: Lorenz was accompanied by ES men on the pictured occasion.) So, the uniform and epaulettes match too ;)

Cheers,
Ivan

Is this Paul Hausser? It’s a scene from “Triumph of the Will”. Hausser didn’t join SS until November of that year (1934).

Hello, J.

It's an (SA-)Feldjägerkorps officer = not Hausser. He looks like the unit commander, Walter Fritsch, but I'm not familiar with the Feldjägerkorps collar rank insignia so I can't tell whether the tabs match as well (the face does match his).

Cheers,
Ivan

Thanks Ivan. I was just curious. I was scrolling the film trying to see lesser knowns in the scenes and saw this particular fellow and thought “hmmm - I wonder if that’s Hausser? Better ask the boys at AHF!”
