A Wehrmacht guards in service in the main entrance of VossStrasse 6, in the Neue Reichskanzlei. Original Postcard I received yesterday.

Which unit did the two Wehrmacht guardsmen belong to, I can't see the emblem on the epaulette unfortunately ?

It was also interesting to see, that both guards stood on a raised wooden base, so that their feet would not cool too much in their boots.

probably the two "Wachposten" belonged to the so called "Wach-Bataillon Berlin".
Unfortunately, I know little about this subject, but there is an interesting entry in the Lexikon der Wehrmacht:

The then so-called "Gardemaß" is likely to have reached both soldiers, and the wooden standing base served exclusively as protection against the cooling of the feet.

Hallo Hans,
If I may, a small correction - the horses were by Josef Thorak. Arno Breker was responsible for the two sculptures, Die Macht and Die Partei that stood in the Ehrenhof.

my mistake, sorry, it was Thorak, who created the two horse sculptures.

I have been lucky enough to buy one yesterday from the son of a US Army Major who was stationed in Berlin at wars end for a few years so I'm happy with the provenance and it's exactly as the ones that are pictured on here somewhere

Hello Helly,

I recently finished “Hitler’s Horses” by Arthur Brand. It’s an amazing story of the underground market for NS memorabilia. I see that in July the German government won their court case and were declared the owners of the horses. The government plans to display them but as yet I’ve heard nothing on this side of the Atlantic about that. Has anyone heard of such plans lately?

Also, the previous “owner” of the horses was also in possession of what were described in the press article as “two larger-than-life portrayals of muscular men by Arno Breker”. I believe these two statues to be (despite the poor description) of Breker’s Ehrenhof statues. Unfortunately, the government was unable to acquire these statues - a pity.

I can recommend Arthur Brand’s book. Never mind the horses - it’s a fascinating look into the shadowy world of NS art. The author even managed to meet Gudrun Himmler.

Another possibility. In your top photo above them and right a bit---that next building over is Goebbels's private residence that had a Hermann-Goering Strasse address. There is a chance they are associated with the new constructions Speer did for his dwelling? In your bottom one, notice also to the `above and leftward' of your left hand structure asking about. That's an emergency water tank, clearly an addition. You see another better example in the new RK next to the main reflecting pool on its eastern side. (I had noticed this one some time ago. This in fact seems to be where bodies were tossed en-masse, that the Soviets mention. Their sketches imply its that's rectangle, and not the main terrace reflecting pond and fountain. At least one account implies that is where Fegelein's body ended up, which might explain why not found.)

Can you, please, give me precisions about the location of the water storage you mentionned in this post from « You see another better exemple in the new RK next to the main reflecting pool » to  « where bodies were tossed en-masse » ? This storage is underground or in the garden, on the surface ? And where it was exactly located ?
