This is rather interesting - I myself had Brettschneider as Bataillonsführer of 3/607. I am furthermore aware that one of the officers that the Soviets captured in Zitadelle Spandau was also named Brettschenider. As far as I know the Soviets in Zitadelle Spandau captured "30 Volkssturm-Soldaten, amongst others Kompanieführer Böhm, Bataillonsführer Arne Clauss, Ausbildungsoffizier Brettschneider und Leutnant Ebbinghaus" - I believe my source is Beevor, p. 375 (at the moment not sure whether this is the english or danish edition).

So if I'm right that Brettschneider belonged to 3/607, if Claus and Clauss is the same person and also that the Kompanieführer Böhm of the 3/607 was the same Kompanieführer Böhm caught in Spandau we can assume that this Bataillon (or maybe only 4. Kompanie) ended up retreating appr. 10 km southwards from Heiligensee to Spandau before being captured.

Forum contributor Wolfgang Grote states:-

'Thank you for sending the document; After looking through the entire file, I can confirm that the Graupmann Combat Battalion is identical to the Volkssturmbataillon 3/607. Lieutenant Bretschneider is also named in the file. He was a training officer in the battalion; he was responsible for training the tank destruction trains.'

Sven30 questions 'so the Btl.-Fhr. Graupmann ( continuously or did he take over from Brettschneider? ) And the training officer for tank destruction, for example, was Lieutenant Brettschneider?'

Wolfgang then adds...'by April 15, 2021 (at least) all documents have been signed by Graupmann as battalion leader; Lieutenant Bretschneider most likely took over the remnants of the battalion during the fighting for Berlin'.

The VS Battalion 3/607 and the Graupmann Combat Battalion consisted of a total of 4 companies and were deployed in the G defensive section.'
