CAB80/67/1: Note of 5 Jan 43 by Churchill on "Import Programme: Restriction of Shipments to Middle East" includes a note that:
There are 400,000 tons of ammunition alone in the Middle East and 220,000 in India or on the way there.

And my last snippet for today (CAB80/77/1):
CAB80-77 - 1st Sea Lord on Build Up in Italy - 16 Dec 43.JPG
I'll see if I can find any more in the British COS papers.

These daily averages are in the same ballpark as those of the several groups of French ports in the latter 4-5 months of 1944.

Just to clarify; the terminating dates are 1 June 1944 ?

Yes, 1st June 1944.

I don't know when the difference between US and UK date terminology started, but it can be blooming confusing!

In the US both are seen. 1/6/21 Can either mean 1st of June 2021, or January 6th 2021. The latter is more common, but there are organizations or record keeping systems that require the former. Then there is the Julian dating system. Only time I had to use that one was when doing logistics paperwork for the Marine Corps/Navy.

That why I avoid dating entirely numerically, but name the month.

& then there are the people who never learned any system, but write gibberish for the date & hope.

The "Build up in Italy" figures quoted by the 1st Sea Lord were the subject of discussion at the COS meeting on 18 Dec 43 (CAB79/68/19);

The Principal Administrative Officers committee were "invited" to examine the proposals and report back to the COS. When they do, I'll report here. :D

Another piece of this 300 bit puzzle.
The War Cabinet discussed the Minister of State's request for extra shipping (see post #13) 0n 11 Mar 43 and concluded:
CAB65-33-39 - Shipments to ME - 11 Mar 43.JPG
More to follow.

The UK's Principal Administrative Officer Committee analysed "the figures given by A.F.H.Q. for the Build Up in Italy" and their report, which considered AFHQ's figures "reasonable" was considered by the UK Chiefs of Staff on 10 February 1944. This is the annex to that report:
CAB79-70-13 - Build up in Italy - War Office analysis - COS 14 Feb 44.JPG
CAB79-70-13 - Build up in Italy - War Office analysis page 2 - COS 14 Feb 44.JPG
Edited to add: It might also be of interest to note the comment that:
The Italian Theatre is still being maintained to a considerable degree from both the Middle East and N. Africa, and this will have to continue for some time to come. Every effort is being made, however, to open the necessary installations in Italy and maintain by direct shipment, which should give a gradual economy in shipping.

@ another piece of the 3000 piece puzzle. I found the daily allocations of supply interesting for comparing to the OVERLORD planning.

Thanks again.
