Vehicle identity requests
Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hin Sturm 78,
a very interesting question about the Mercedes-Benz type G 3 a. You are right, it is a subvariant of the Kfz. 62.
It is a vehicle of a Beobachtungsabteilung (have a look on the invitation of the Beobachtungsabteilung for a stew lunch). It cannot be a flash-light analysing motor vehicle or a Wetterkraftwagen – weather motor vehicle or a print shop motor vehicle, because these vehicles have another superstructure. So it could be a Stabsauswertekraftwagen - staff analysing motor vehicle or a Schallauswertewagen - sound analysing motor vehicle. Here a pic of such a vehicle (source: Handbuch für Heerestaktik des Lehrstabes für Heerestaktik beim Reichsministerium der Luftfahrt 1939).
Best regards
Bert

Re: Vehicle identity requests
That was my guess. Looks like two of them there, the second is a bit to the left in the picture and has the metal frames in place for the canvas top.arminfreitag wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021, 01:48Hi T. A. Gardner
the vehicle is definitely a Bergepz 38 and not any prototype APC.
In the marked are you can see the base for the 2t crane.

Armin

I think that there are also other two possibilities: Kfz.62 Vermessungsauswertekraftwagen (surveying evaluation motor vehicle) or Kfz.62 Schallaufnahmekraftwagen (sound recording motor vehicle) ...

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Sturm 78,
thank You very much for the correction and the expansion of the possible motor vehicles.
When we have a look on the structure of a Beobachtungsabteilung, is it right, that this Abteilung had:
1 Stabsauswertekraftwagen - staff analysing motor vehicle Kfz. 62,
2 Wetterkraftwagen – weather motor vehicles Kfz. 62,
1 Druckereikraftwagen – print shop motor vehicle Kfz. 62,
2 Vermessungsauswertekraftwagen - surveying evaluation motor vehicles Kfz. 62,
4 Lichtmeßstellenkraftwagen - flash light measuring point motor vehicles Kfz. 63,
3 Lichtmessauswertekraftwagen - flash-light analysing motor vehicles Kfz. 62,
4 Schallaufnahmekraftwagen - sound recording motor vehicles Kfz. 62 or 63,
4 Schallauswertewagen - sound analysing motor vehicles Kfz. 62?
Thanks in advance for an answer.
Best regards

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hello uncle. Alexander and Hoss65. This is a very interesting problem. Other GM cars of the era besides the Cadillac had similar headlamp mounting struts, such as the Chevy shown here: The problem is that none had the stamped plate type bonnet louvers as on the subject car or the GAZ A (or the Ford Model A for that matter).
Cheers,
Max

Hi, what is the name of these two vehicles? Is the one at the back a Kübelwagen?

Re: Vehicle identity requests
Hi Alif,
Well, right off I can say the one in the back is a SIMCA 8 cabriolet ca.1939. The other will take some digging but is most likely French as well.
